Thx. to Jeff. Bomber sample @ RBBSG 2012. Dark brown with a light bordeaux hue, little head. Sweet and hoppy smell, mocha, touch roast, light berries, plenty of american hops, caramel. Taste is bitter coffee grounds mixed with caramel, sweet mocha, some roast, sweeter chocolate, pushing away a bit the pine hops which are rather tuned down.tad fruits, hint brown sugar. Tad softer carb. medium body. Good stuff. DrSilverworm (9671) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAY 26, 2014
16oz can from Perfect Pour. Shared with Steph. Can says "Extremely fresh"... Lol where is the date? Put your money where your mouth is, BP. Kind of clear dark brown red color. Made hazy with lots of fine particles in the body. Thin khaki head. Some bits of lace, mostly loose. Medium to bigger body. Reasonably smooth, kind of soft, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Aroma and flavor is a little disappointing. It’s a black IPA, yeah, but it tastes kind of like a black IPA that a macrobrewer made. Like a leinenkugels black IPA or something. Very mild and mild-mannered. Kind of sweet, too. Moderate sweet taste, light on the bitterness. Some chocolate malt, toasty malt, nutty malt, and earthy hop. Light bit of pine. Tastes like a hoppier but basic brown ale, basically. Light bit of metallic. This is my friend Steph’s first time trying a black IPA... She likes it, but her only input is that "it tastes a little watered down". And that is fucking spot on! This is like a decent black IPA sat around for a bit, got a little malty and sweet, and then was watered down a bit. OK "black IPA", I suppose. I like the style so I may be a bit forgiving. But "Toxic Sludge" seems like a misnomer. I asked Steph what’d she’d score this (never asked her that before). She said 2.7, which I’m pretty impressed by. Because 3 is close to average, she says. Nice. tderoeck (9656) - Gent, BELGIUM - AUG 27, 2012
11/VIII/2012 bomber bottle @ RBBSG - (2012-904) Thanks to Jeff for sharing the bottle!arminjewell (9635) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - DEC 15, 2010
Clear cola coloured beer, aery off-white head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: lots of caramel, sweet sugary, mocha, alcohol. MF: good carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sweet, malty, very fruity, hops, some mocha, caramel. Aftertaste: mocha, bit of coffee, grassy hops, some caramel, bitter hoppy dry ending.
Pours deep black with nice big lacing off white head. Aroma includes notes of grass, pine, touch of metal, some biscuit. Taste is big pine and resinous hops up front, touch of citrus leading into caramel and biscuit, finishing punishingly bitter with a touch of roast. Very good black IPA, roast and hops meld well together. JoeMcPhee (9426) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 1, 2011
Deep brown-black pour with a very light dank hop aroma. Lots of cocoa and black roasted malt. Chewy and roasty with a heavy dank hoppiness. Assertively hopped with a nice clean bitterness and some roasted malt character. Chewy and a little bit earthy. It’s quite fragrant with some lingering bitterness. Pretty solid.

Draft. Pours deep brown with a beige head. Nutty and sweet malty aroma with floral and earthy hoppy notes. The flavor has nutty malts, hazelnut, light coffee, and light floral hops. Strikes me as more of a porter/stout than a Black IPA. Pretty good. czar (9059) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 3, 2014
can. pours unclear and almost light brown with a nice creamy very light beige head showing some retention and lacing. lightly sweet chocolate malts, brown sweet nutty maltiness, nice citrus and soft pine needles, spices, molasses and burnt sugars, some red fruits here and there, mint and coffee traces. moderate carbonation, light body - oily and a bit sticky, bittersweet resiny-citrusy finish. agreeing with doc below as toxic sludge is a misnomer indeed. still enjoyable. drowland (8676) - Georgia, USA - DEC 8, 2010
12/7/10. Draft. Nice mix of roasted notes and piney, catty, almost sour hop aroma. Nice flavor that leans more towards roasty with touches of sour hop. Ibrew2or3 (8614) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - NOV 27, 2010
Pours dark mahogany with full mocha head and some sheet lacing. The aroma is full and rich and inviting with notes of citrus hops mixing with pin hop resin, some chocolate, sweet toffee candy and a thin layer of dark roasted malts. The taste is rich with dark roasted malts running into a firm layer of pine hop bitterness as well as citrus hops around the edges. By midway the malt sweetened citrus surges forward just in front of lingering pine hop resin and dark roasted malts. Man. I can drink this all the time. Yum. (Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm) Dark ruby colour, almost black, with brief beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of coffee, dark chocolate and hints of pine needles. Roasted, malty taste with coffee, dark chocolate, some ashes and hints of pine needles and grapefruit in the finish. More than medium body, quite dry. Very nice.
