My can [473ml] shared with HogTownHarry & biegaman. Pours a deep orange-brown with an average size semi-lasting frothy tan head. Aroma of leafy hops, toasted malt and notes of coffee and chocolate. Flavour of toasted malt and leafy hops. Average to medium bodied. Not great, but pretty good. zgaier (1951) - Coral Springs, Florida, USA - FEB 25, 2013
Pours a red-brown with a light tan head and aroma of roasted malt and hop. Taste is of hops, caramel, and light roasted malt and pine with a bitter, toasty finish. bytemesis (8226) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - FEB 25, 2013
Can. Pours deep clear chestnut with a large creamy tan head that slowly dissipates with nice lacing. Aroma is pine, with some caramel and roasty notes as well. Light bready sweetness and light bitterness lingering to the finish where it becomes almost a bit lemon-zesty. Medium body. johnnnniee (4236) - Bedford, New Hampshire, USA - FEB 28, 2013
Odd but neat looking can reminds me more of an energy drink than a beer. Pours a solid dark brown color with ruby highlights and a huge creamy tan head that persists forever leaving lots of stickiness to the glass. Smells slightly ashy with a hint of wet cardboard on top of light chocolate and earthy floral hops. The nose is kind of disappointing for a black IPA really. The flavor is a bit better with a solid malty chocolate mixed with an earthy spicy hop flavor. Firm but pleasant hop bitterness rounds out a caramel butterscotch malt sweetness quite well. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet creamy mouthfeel. Decent beer that I could drink, but middle of the road and honestly not worth purchasing again.

Appearance: Deep ruby color (almost black) with a foamy offwhite head.
Aroma: Almost no hops in the nose, and what hops are present meld into the background with malt roast. Mainly toffee and caramel malt sweetness present.
Taste: A little more hops than in the aroma, but not too much. There is almost a hybrid experience between the hops and the coffee notes from the malt. Definite caramel and toffee sweetness with burnt toast in the background. Blackcurrants present, too.
Mouthfeel: Nice and smooth. Drinks well, there’s a good, gentle carbonation present.
Overall: While this is a tasty beer, it doesn’t fit the description of a black IPA in my opinion. This tastes more like a red or a brown ale that has had some extra hops added for a bit of an extra bite.
March 31, 2013 - can as an extra from Dave. Brown pour with nice amount of head and spotty lacing. Aroma was roasted malt, caramel and piney hops. Taste was mildly roasted malt and a slight piney bitter finish. Medium bodied and soft carbonation. Theydon_Bois (19192) - Hazlemere, the lower Xhitlerns, Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - DEC 2, 2013
Can at Percy Street BBQ, PHL, 29/11/13.
Very dark mahogony brown with a moderate light tan covering that reduces to edgework.
Nose is dank hops, light tropicals, grapefruit, earthy cocoa, pine.
Taste comprises light roast, cocoa powder, light metallic tang, hint of pine, grapefruit.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry finale with subtle hop bitterness.
OK CDA but pretty middle of the road for the style. jdavenp (18) - New York, New York, USA - FEB 8, 2011
bomber from whole foods bowery. dark pour with tan head. strong on the malt flavors for a black IPA. Hops come in after the fact. Not bad.
