From old tasting notes. Translucent black, brown color. Creamy tan head. Sweet burnt caramel, cappuccino aroma. Bittersweet chocolate malt flavor. There is a hint of licorice and smokiness that lends to its complexity.creamy mouthfeel. A very good American stout. DarkElf (3062) - La Jolla, California, USA - APR 17, 2014

Drank a lot of Steeple Stout in the 90s when I lived in DC, one of my favorites back then. It’s still pretty solid. The beer pours a black body with a short, dark-tan head, fading to a ring. The roasty, chocolaty aromas are very pleasant and enticing, smelling moderately sweet. It’s really tasty on the palate, with prominent flavors of dark chocolate bar and cocoa, with lesser notes of coffee, tobacco, grilled meat, and cola. Light-medium sweetness is nicely balanced by mild, roasty, cacao-like bitterness. The beer is full bodied, medium in carbonation, and soft, smooth, and creamy in mouthfeel. Overall, this is such a perfect stout for me. It’s a little sweet, a little bitter, and a lot delicious. And talk about beautiful cellaring capability, wow!
Pours dark brown with a light brown head. Smells of roasted malt, spice, some sweet chocolate hints. Tastes dry and earthy with a roasty finish. jgb9348 (6256) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - JAN 21, 2009
Deep dark brown coloured body with a subtle light brown head. Aroma of grapes, chocolate and light coffee. Medium to Full-bodied; Deep chocolate, coffee and roasted malt flavours throughout the taste. Aftertaste shorly follows with a pleasant sweetness, a good chocolate kick and somewhat of a bitter coffee taste. Overall, a damn good stout - no horrible tastes at all, just good ones! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 04-September-2005 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. MrStitch (137) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 27, 2008
Nice aroma, good color, ok taste. Full body with malt and a hint of caramel flavor. A bit on the tart side of things when it comes to taste.

Dec 2005 - Beer poured dark color with next to no head and lacing. Aroma of roasted malts. Taste was rich and full...roasty, sweet and even a nice, slightly bitter finish. Well done, esp. for the money. RSRIZZO (1986) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - SEP 26, 2007

Aroma: 8/10; Appearance: 5/10; Flavor: 5/10; Palate: 5/10; Overall: 10/20

Pours a medium black with a small head of tan bubbles. Smells or earthy malts, chocolate and coffee. Nothing out of the ordinary, just a very straight forward, drinking stout. Flavors are also of chocolate, balanced nicely with roasted malts and hops. Alcohol is just right, solid. odell (2) - Washington, Washington DC, USA - JAN 6, 2007 does not count
Good stout. Not too much alcohol, reminds me of an Australian stout like Sheaf, but with less molasses flavor. A very light body for such a nutty, chocolatey beer.
