Altbier, literally translated as “Old Style” beer, is a classic German ale. BBC Altbier is brewed with additions of Munich, wheat, caramel, and chocolate malts creating a delicate, but flavorful malt profile. This delicious amber colored session beer is balanced with additions of tradtional spicy German hops creating a light and floral bouquet to compliment its complex malt profile.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a hazy orange with small off white head. The aroma is grain and rye. Medium body, rye, bready malt, light finish, decent.

Didn’t take tasting notes. Just wrote down the score so I’m typing just enough words.

Poured into a pint glass. 3.0 A: Lightly hazed dark orange color. Two fingers of foamy off-white head. Retention is a touch below average and only a few wisps of lacing are left. 3.25 S: Toasty with caramel sweetness. Maybe a hint of mineral quality to it. There isn’t much going on overall though. Still, it’s not bad. 3.0 T: The taste is like the nose. Toastiness, a bit of caramel, and mineral. Not much else. Still, it’s not terrible. It tastes a bit like a bitter, just not a great one. 3.25 M: Lighter body. Good moderate carbonation. Moderately creamy, but still lacking something here. 2.75 D: It’s okay, but it’s easily forgettable. In fact, uhh....what was I talking about? ★ 688 characters DavoleBomb, Jul 19, 2013

Honeyed amber color with a frothy cover. Honeyed malt grain nose with no discernable hopping. Dry, honeyed malt flavor, but not sweet. Grainy with a mild tannic finish.

Cybercat (6331) - Georgia, USA - JUN 29, 2015
Pours clear coppery-amber with a decent buff head. Malty aroma has a hint of caramel. Flavor has a firm malty stroke supported by yeasty and caramel tones. Texture has decent body and fizz. Prost!

Poobah (479) - New Orleans, Louisiana, USA - MAR 4, 2015
Amber with a thin head and a honey-sweet nose. Light mouthfeel with very little carbonation. Finishes with mild hoppiness and notes of honey.

Draft sampler pours golden with a white head. Aroma of malts, grain and bread. Taste is caramel, grain and toast.

UPDATED: OCT 20, 2014 Tap @ Bluegrass: Hazy copper body, kind of dingy & topped with a fuzzy beige collar. No aroma. Literally, none. It gets a "2" because at least it doesn’t smell... Bad. I guess. Smells like water. Taste includes some toasted bread & burnt crackers with a touch of floral earthiness underneath. Some lightly sweet biscuity malts in the finish, coating the mouth. Easy drinking, not a bad beer but the aroma kills it because it literally has no smell.

Draft pour at the source. Pours a clear copper with a white head. Bready and caramel aroma. Lightly bitter, but mostly sweet. Light body and low carbonation.

Fritz123 (1535) - Boca Raton, Florida, USA - APR 20, 2014
Draft at the brewery on 3rd and Main. Pint glass pour was deep amber to brown but mostly clear. Medium white head lasted and laced. Aroma was malt forward per the style with roasted nuts, dough, dark breads, herbs, and wheat. Smells like walking through a pasture just before harvest. Decent hop balance profile. Medium to light in body, good malty finish. Medium carb. Overall good for the style.
