balanced, nice earthy hops, a bit of pine and citrus. a solid American Pale Ale in the league with Sierra Nevada PA. would make a great session beer. Metalchopz (3388) - Cantley, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 13, 2010
Purchased at Trader Joe in Nashville on my trip there. Wow... huge off-white head, very long-lasting and creating patchy lacing all over. Pretty hoppy nose with some other fruits (apples, grapefruits, oranges). Colour is golden-amber with lots of carbonation. Very bitter start to the flavours with the hop being right in your face and then going through clementines. The hoppy bitterness stays the whole way through and into the long lasting aftertaste. I would have to say, this is a powerful American Pale Ale, well-balancing the bitter hop and the sweet fruits. Dogbrick (13012) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - NOV 12, 2002
Tasted at the Barrelhouse Brewing Company Microbrew Fest on November 9. This APA was much better than I was expecting. A great example of a microbrew APA, this is exactly how I would make it! Thick head over a dark amber body. Nice bittering effect and good finish. beermatrix (1497) - Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA - DEC 11, 2003
Clear light crimson orange in color with a bubbly thickly puffed off-white head about a finger high, substains on top for a good while barely noticed how it got down a thick haze, which stayed present the whole glass and sticky lace in various stringy thicknesses. Nice smell of dry hop leafs lending a good woody dry pineyness, quite dry like kindling with a nice toasty malt backing and some dulled sweetness as well. Taste has a nice smooth, easy soft malted front, middle constitutes the dry hop profile with a nice drying leafy/woodyness and a clean bittering bite thats a touch piney but mostly dry and woody all the way into the finish where it finishes with lingering dryness and some toasted malty grains left on the palate. Has a little touch of burntness to its backing as well near the finish. Medium body feel with a pretty solid carbonation thats a bit harsh, like my pales a bit smoother then this, but this isn't bad at all, a decent pale all around. After already a long day of travel originating in St. Petersburg, Russia, I missed my connection from Cincinnati to Minneapolis so I was forced to wait an extra hour and a half for the next flight. This inconvenience turned into a blessing when I spotted the Bluegrass Brewing Company at the other end of the large terminal waiting room. Although I was rather sick, having caught a nasty cold during my travels, I figured I couldn't pass up an opportunity to rate my first beer from the state of Kentucky. I was glad I did. Fruity and hoppy aroma; really nice. Average sized, tan head. Reddish amber in color and excellent lace!! Sparse, but present carbonation. Head is mostly dissipating. It was good to be back in the USA! Very good; the IBU's have to be up there. Sweet enough to offset the substantial bitterness, yet with a chalky dryness seen in some stouts. Won Best in Show APA at the '99 Real Ale Fest, and I can see why. This is almost overwhelmingly hoppy and I am definitely a hophead. Worth your while.

Cask at the brewery - dirty gold/copper with a thick, creamy off white head. Aroma of grassy/citrusy hops. Nicely hopped for a straight Pale Ale. Maybe a bit out of balance, but that’s okay for this hop fiend! Creamy mouthfeel. This is definitely a brewery on the rebound! 3fourths (9347) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - AUG 13, 2006
UPDATED: SEP 16, 2011 Nice juicy and fruity hops all over this one. Grapefruit and tart doughy tangerines with a crisp, and fresh, juicy flavor... very nice bitterness, wonderfully grassy fresh hop cones everywhere. Pretty much what an APA is supposed to be about, very well-crafted. markas101 (2455) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - OCT 12, 2006
Pint, BBC Brewpub, Louisville. Deep amber colour, fantastic hoppy aroma, thick sided head that clings to the glass. Hops show through in the flavour, with some sharp bitterness and long lingering aftertaste. Great APA.
