Bottle... Mine poured a mostly clear, orange/amber with a large, frothy, off-white head. Terrific retention. The aroma is equally malty and hoppy. Malty caramel and very light milk chocolate. Hoppy grapefruit, tropical fruit and pine. Hearty, malty flavor up front; followed closely by an abundance of American bittering hops. The result is a brew with good balance that leans just a little toward the bitter side of the scale. Full-bodied and creamy with lively carbonation. Lengthy, moderately bitter finish. More body than any other ≤6% ABV beer I’ve ever tasted with the exception of Dark Horse’s Tres Blueberry Stout (4.5%). markas101 (2455) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - OCT 12, 2006
Pint, BBC Brewpub, Louisville. Deep amber colour, fantastic hoppy aroma, thick sided head that clings to the glass. Hops show through in the flavour, with some sharp bitterness and long lingering aftertaste. Great APA. Immy (1955) - Virginia Beach, USA - AUG 12, 2007
12 oz bottle. Murky amber with a thick off white head. Big nose - sweet malt and citrus hop are separate yet equal. Very piney flavor and finish, with a sweet malt presance. This is a big, serious APA. 6%? Really? Wow. Very good! Acknud (1081) - Morganfield, Kentucky, USA - OCT 19, 2007
Nice and bitter. Pretty golden amber with a frothy head. Citrus taste with citrus hops aroma. gibson584 (29) - Kentucky, USA - FEB 5, 2008
UPDATED: APR 30, 2009 On tap. Pours a light brown hue with a reasonable head. Delicious hop aroma. Infused with just the right amount of hops where you know it’s there, but it doesn’t take away from the other flavors. After taste almost hints at a flavor of vanilla as the hops settles.

Had this one on draught as part of a sampler from the brewpub in downtown Louisville, Kentucky. Dark reddish-brown pour with a thin, off-white head. Fruity, citrusy nose with a huge grapefruit and spicy hops presence in the flavor, finish is softer and nice and balanced. I liked this one a lot! kp (10882) - Woodstock, Georgia, USA - SEP 1, 2007

copper, wispy head, strong fresh aroma, rich hop flavor, slightly sour, good dose of bitterness with a long finish, otherwise one dimensional
Score: ii to iii
dark amber, thin white head, velvet smooth body, solid hop flavor on a slightly sweet carmel malt bace, touch of citrus, nice long bitter finish, after the cask the c02 version appears lighter, still more body but the sweetness of the first round takes a long time to start to appear, cask is supperior
slight haze, huge cask head, light citrus hop aroma, rich cream body, light hop flavor but a long bitter finish, the cask mellows it into a fine esb

UPDATED: JUN 21, 2009 On cask at Flangan’s Old Ale House, Louisville, Kentucky. Poured dark copper with a thin tan head. Nose was fruity. Flavor had fruit notes, almost cider-like. Soft mouthfeel and refreshing finish. potbeerjob (1343) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JUN 13, 2010
Bottled. Dark amber with thinner off-white head. Aroma is fruity grapefruit and clementines. Flavor is very similar big citrus fruits with bug bitter bite backend and some supporting roles of grass and maybe a touch of lighter pine. Really awesome! andyhwcinc (1884) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 18, 2011
Purchased at Hyde Park Wine & Spirits in Cincinnati, OH; enjoyed during the 2nd week of the NFL season on a rainy Sunday afternoon. This was bottled on Aug ’10 and consumed on Sept ’11, so I hope it’s still ’good’. Appearance a very very cloudy dark gold with a very frothy white head, possibly the most head out of a pale ale I’ve seen yet. Aroma is heavy on the citrus hops, almost a little too citrusy but it’s still nice, a bit sweet as well. Taste also pretty hoppy for a pale ale, dominated by the more citrusy hops. Medium body, above average bitterness for the style, carbonation I’d say is somewhere between average and above average. As it warms there’s a apricot flavor that comes through as well. To be honest I’m pretty happy with this one, good stuff. Above average pale ale.
