6/25/2010: BBC Bourbon Barrel Beer de Mars... Aroma: Vanilla bourbon with blenty of caramelized sugar. Appearance: Amber; thick, lasting beige to ivory-colored head of foam. Flavor: Loads of sweet candi sugar and caramel malts; vanilla-cherry bourbon; a very slight hint of citrus; dark, freshy fruits; oak; warming alcohol that can be felt, but not tasted (for the most part - okay, I lied... there is a lot of bourbon in this one that can be smelled, tasted, and felt!); medium level of herbal bitterness in the finish. Palate: Medium to medium-full in body; low carbonation; smooth mouthfeel. Overall: Sweet, but not cloying; bourbon is welcomed, but overpowers the other flavors of this beer at times; base beer would probably be pretty mediocre without the heavy dose of bourbon, but it’s hard to say for sure...
Draught (growler fill) from Party Town in Florence, KY. Rating #2 for this beer.
Bottle shared by a friend. Clear red/amber pour with a medium tan head. Aroma of vanilla oak, apple, caramel and Belgian yeast. Flavor is vanilla oak, fruit, sweet caramel malt and a boozy finish.
