Color of unfiltered apple cider, with whispy off-white head / Delicate nose of apple cider, caramel, bourbon, and oak / Light to medium body, mellow with very soft carbonation, lightly sour and acidic with some sweetness, and with excellent balance and finish / Not overly complex but very stylish flavors of apple cider, caramel, bourbon, and oak / Drinks more like a sort of farmhouse ale than a lager. Another great one from BG. badlizard (5533) - Berkeley, California, USA - JUN 14, 2011
Bottle from Liquor Barn. Clear dark yellow with a fizzy white head. Nice slightly fruity, grainy, and bourbon aroma. Tastes of caramel, vanilla, white grape, bourbon, and oak with a sweet bread finish. Smooth if somewhat sticky palate. phaleslu (10329) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - NOV 9, 2010
750 ml bottle from West Lakeview Liquors at a special BBC beer tasting. The crew from BBC said this was brand new. Broke this open later that night at dinner. Pours a clear orange-gold color with a small white head. Notes of straw, pale malts, honey, cereal, and vanilla, oak, and a hint of bourbon, but those take more of a backseat than they do in the other BBC barrel beers I’ve had. Light-medium bodied, with low carbonation and a sticky, malty mouthfeel. Not bad at all. zach8270 (4021) - Henrietta, New York, USA - NOV 21, 2010
(draft @ Local Option - Chicago, IL) Clear amber pour with a soapy white head. Mild bourbon aroma with some grassy hops underneath. Good amount of vanilla and oak. Flavor is a mild bourbon vanilla and oak combination with a nice malty and grassy hop combination underneath. Never had a bourbon-aged Helles before but it worked well. Smooth and not overbearing. Bottle @ Morten minus Peter smagning, Ulfborg. Pours cloudy dark golden with a small white head. Nose is sweet oak, vanilla, caramel and grains. Flavor likewise. Smooth and vaguely boozy. Not bad, but why ?

750ml from Liquor Barn, Louisville. Shouldn’t work and it’s too thin and the flavor is a bit indistinctly fruity, with an insufficient hop profile and an at times generic feel. But for one reason or another, I dug it nonetheless, even if it’s only because I was impressed with the relative subtlety of the barrel. Tmoney99 (14612) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUL 24, 2012
Draft. Poured hazy copper color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good. Moderate bourbon, wood, balanced aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium bourbon bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met with this brew.
