Tap at brewpub. Sweet toffee and chocolate malt aroma. Dark black color with minimal head. Nice bourbon taste throughout blended with a sweet chocolate malt flavor. One of the smoothest and nicest bourbon barrel beers I’ve had. SledgeJr (3577) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - DEC 8, 2005
On tap at the brewpub. I felt like I should have had this on the rocks there was so much bourbon flavor in it! Approximately the same appearance as the DarkStar porter. Very dark brown head. Aroma is roasted with a strong alcoholic bourbon smell. Bourbon flavor is outrageously huge. I would have thought that this should be kept away from open flames, but the bartender said that it was only 7% ABV. I just don’t believe it. Big beer with a big flavor and lots of heat. i was in the bar having a beer with my cousin that i was eating lunch with during my stop over coming back from the uindy gathering. the man behind the bar starts writing on the chalkboard. i look up and see this, so i quickly order one. pitch black with a dark head. whiskey nose. i asked what barrel they use, was told evan williams. not much smoke escapes from this, the burbon is thick with vanilla. a great chocolate finish to this. the heavy booze works very well with the sweetness. this sucker is a great after dinner sipper. chocolate, plum, cherry, wood, burbon, and more dry bakers chocolate too. a nice sipper. From a growler
Black pour with a tall head of tan.
The aroma is a well blended chocolate and bourbon.
The flavor follows the aroma. Good bourbon character that is neither too overpowering as many of these barrel beers can be, and it leaves plenty of rrom for the chocolate notes to come through. Just enough sweetness.
The palate has a nice dryness to it, slightly chalky, and the body is light enough to allow the heavier flavors to achive some balance.
I didin’t detect any smoke at all, but there was enough here to please without it. One that is complex enough to serve for dessert, yet light enough to have a second pint of.

Bourbon aroma. Beige head. Black smooth on the palate and strong in alcohol with a crisp and bitter coffee roast finish.

Growler from Party Town. Poured black color with an average frothy brown head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate roasted malt. woody bourbon and smoke aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Medium balanced smoke flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met with a very good brew. shigadeyo (3749) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - OCT 9, 2008

10/08/2008: BBC Bourbon Barrel Aged Smoked Porter is cola-colored with a thin tan head. There is subtle bourbon barrel char in the aroma and the bourbon alcohol definitely makes an appearance in the aroma too. The flavor contains lightly smoked malt, is somewhat peated (tastes a lot like Scotch) in the front with weak chocolate and roasted malt followed by bourbon barrel char, faint dryness in the finish. The flavor is a good harmony of caramelized malt, light vanilla, and bourbon. The medium-light body has a thin and watery mouthfeel (getting more tolerable as it warms) for the style and flavor profile. This beer is smooth and very good overall, but I would have liked more body. However, this is still one of the better BBC beers that I have had...
Draught via growler fill from Party Town in Florence, Kentucky shared by Tmoney99 at the weekly Party Source gathering. Thank you Tom! Rating #5 for this beer...
Growler acquired in trade with alexsdad06 (thanks!). Poured a dark, dark brown (almost black color) with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of woody, trace of bourbon, earthy, and smoke. Tastes of smoke (stronger than in the aromas), woodiness, roast, chocolate, vanilla, and again a trace of bourbon. The bourbon was barely noticeable - but the woodiness was there. alexsdad06 (10486) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - JUN 19, 2010
Growler shared by Tmoney99. Pours a clear dark brown color with a small beige head. The aroma has mild bourbon notes, woody, slight char, roasted malt and is lightly smoky. The flavor has a bit more smoke and bourbon than the nose. Roasted malts, caramel, light chocolate, peat, vanilla add to the taste. Medium bodied. The bourbon is not forward, but blends with the other flavors well. 502Che (999) - @, CAMBODIA - AUG 11, 2009
On tap at the brewhouse. Pitch black pour with a khaki tan head. Aroma is of smoked bacon (schlenkerla) a solid robust porter base. The flavor is the same. I am not into smoked beers, but people who are will LOVE this beer. I am slowly turning more onto them, and I actually enjoyed this one, but I think that the real smoke lovers will dig this one quite a bit. Silky smooth on the palate with a medium to heavy body. Overall: nice... GREAT for smoked fans (I would suspect).
