Bottle at Max and Jess’s place. Pours a hazed brown black with a thin beige tan head. Isopropyl, bourbon, roast coffee, and chocolate. Roast and coffee, big and roasty. Chocolate and roast. Touches of booze and roast. italarican (1549) - Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 20, 2011
Bottle shared at Max’s FF winnings tasting. Pours a deep dark chocolate. Aroma has notes of vanilla and oak, but it’s predominantly awesome chocolate ganache. Flavor is surprisingly smoky but not meaty. Slightly oily body with some really nice smoky and creamy features. I like. blipp (9374) - La Mesa, California, USA - MAR 19, 2011
Bottle at Max’s tasting. Pours near black with a beige head. Roasted malty aroma with a light sweetness. The flavor has roasted malts, a hint of bourbon sweetness, and caramel. Solid. crossovert (13080) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 10, 2011
12 oz bottle.
It doesn’t look that great for a stout. There are carbonation bubbles that stick to the sides of my snifter. The head is fizzier than it should be. It doesn’t look as thick and imposing as it should.
The smell is sweet bourbon, not too much oak or stout scent. It has a ton of butterscotch in it too.
This is one thin bourbon barrel stout. Dang. It tastes like guiness with some bourbon notes. It isn’t too sweet.
The mouthfeel is thin, not good for the style.

Bottle thanks to Robert. Pours black. Off tan head. Nose and taste of chocolate malt, vanilla and barrel. Slightly sweet. Plain. Decent.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is wonderful: bourbon, wood, chocolate, caramel, dark fruits. Flavor is still very good, but it doesn’t live up to the aroma. Mouthfeel is a bit thin. But oh, that aroma. ogiergrove (120) - Lakewood, Colorado, USA - FEB 25, 2011
Understated bourbon character on the tongue, slightly more pronounced on the nose. Nice obsidion color bleeng (1682) - Seattle still not near Beersel., Washington, USA - FEB 13, 2011
12 oz bottle from a 4 pack. Pours nice and dark with a huge fluffy tan head. Nose is bit alcoholic, a little skunky. Not real appealing...Taste is a bit chocolately, very carbonated, just a little roasty and with delicate whiskey notes-you really do have hunt for the bourbon here. Alcohol is present. Body is very thin for a stout but there is a bit of fluffiness. I guess this isn’t too bad but for the style it is really lacking. picknbrew (196) - Mechanicsville, Virginia, USA - FEB 11, 2011
12 oz. bottle. Aroma- Some roast, a little oak slight vanilla. Appearance- Opaque black with some creamy tan head. Flavor- Pretty dry perception due to roasthints of bittersweet chocolate and some oak. Can’t seem to detect much bourbon. Bitter finish with a slight papery after taste. Very deep brown and almost completely opaque, this is a nice looking beer w/ a decent head of off-white bubbles. Nose is roasty w/ a lightly vinous character. This is medium bodied w/ slightly overly vigorous carbonation. Consequently, the flavor comes off as a little thin though it’s nice and roasty w/ just a touch of barrel character.
