3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: FEB 15, 2015 On tap at Ford?s Fish Shack in South Riding and served in a small snifter. The beer is a dark brown that?s nearly opaque, but shows some cola highlights when held to the lamp. Minimal head once it got to the table which settled to a sheen. Clearly a barrel aged beer from the aroma which is deep with vanilla and oak. There are roasted malt, molasses, and char notes as well. Taste is not exciting and leads off watery. It is moderately sweet with vanilla, molasses, and a dusting of cocoa. It is also moderately bitter on the finish with espresso, oak, char, and roasted malt flavors. A weak medium body, thin texture, moderate carbonation, and a sweet woody finish.
UPDATED: OCT 23, 2017 dark pour with a small tan head. nice smokey flavor, but the four Roses was a bit overwhelming. not a bad thing, but i like more of a bourbon finish can8ianben (1583) - State College, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 15, 2015

Sampled at GABF 2015. In the tasting glass was black. Tan head. Nose of roasted malts Some bourbon. Medium body. Flavor is woody, with some vanilla. Finish lightly bitter. Bourbon under control making this quite drinkable. GenDV138 (7759) - Falls Church, Virginia, USA - OCT 5, 2015
4 oz pour on draft at Spacebar. Dark brownish black with light tan head. Aromas of light chocolate and caramel. Tastes of light dark fruit, chocolate, caramel, subtle bourbon, light oak. Medium body with a dry finish. Not really much bourbon to speak of if any. solidfunk (9437) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - AUG 30, 2015
Light roast and some barrel, though the latter is pretty well integrated. Some dark chocolate. Pours black with decent head. Some caramel. Bittersweet finish. Bottle.

16oz pour at Spacebar comes a thick black with some soft, white head. Nose has a lot of roast, licorice, toast, the bourbon is there but it’s more a vanilla/caramel thing than anything. Flavor really comes through with the booze, loads of vanilla, toasted wood, coconut, something a bit artificial like cheap rootbeer, licorice, burnt malt. Full bodied, lightly boozy finish. dlovell2 (2351) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - JUL 28, 2015
Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is tobacco, chocolate, vanilla, and bourbon. Flavor is roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, vanilla, oak, and bourbon. Finish is roasted malt, coffee, and bourbon. DialSquare (5142) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JUL 1, 2015
12oz bottle - can’t remember where I got it. Black pour, enormous frothy light tan head that takes forever to recede. Aroma of chocolate, zesty, wood. Tastes are sour... looks like this has evolved. Pretty much tart green apple and vinegar throughout with chocolate, molasses, coffee in the background. Heavily carbonated thin palate. Kind of like it as a sour. No idea what it was supposed to taste like. bth122 (1678) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 24, 2015
Bottle. Poured a black color with generous head. Aroma notes of vanilla, malt, and bourbon. Brown sugar, slight molassis. Taste is watery but has some malts enought to satisfy. Its ok. dnstone (3573) - Kansas City, Missouri, USA - APR 10, 2015
Deep chocolate brown color with an off-white head. Vanilla, caramel aroma. Well-balanced caramel, coconut, vanilla character on this stout; bourbon is light enough to complement, but not overpower. Great!
