BBC Nut Brown Ale has a diverse grain bill which lends this traditional English ale a variety of flavors that coalesce into a remarkably smooth and pleasant drink. Additions of various pale, caramel and dark malts create a smooth, sweet malt profile with hints of roasted nuttiness. Multiple additions of English hops round out the flavors and give this classic beer a true flavor of the Old World.

clear dark brown with ruby edges, wispy beige head, drippy lace, sweet milk chocolate aroma with a toasted nutty character, creamy body, rich dry chocolate flavor, lots of toasted and nutty malts adds good complexity, only a hint of sweetness brings out the chocolate, well balanced earthy bitterness,

Bottle from Squire’s. Hazy deep brown pour with ruby edges and nose of caramel malt, hops, brown sugar, almonds, and red wine grapes. Tastes malty, with brown sugar, fig, and a nut medley including almond, cashew, and walnut. Smooth and enjoyable.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a thick creamy rosy beige head. The aroma is roasted malt and nuts. Initial flavor is pretty full, rich, malty, weak coffee. Later it becomes a bit more nutty. The finish is dry, some bitterness, with a very weak coffee note. The bitterness is moderate but adds balance to the rest of the flavors. Medium body and somewhat smooth. A decent local offering.

Draft sample at the St. Matthews brewery. Pours a clear brown color with a small tan head. Aroma of nuts, brown sugar, toasted malts, caramel, and very faint hops. The flavor is sweet and toasty, with malts, nuts, caramel, brown sugar, and cardboard. Light-medium bodied, with average carbonation and a toasty mouthfeel. Very plain, unexciting nut brown ale.

12oz bottle, thanks to Thunder. Somewhat hazy brown / red color, minimal off-white head. A bit more sharp, moderate carbonation. Decent mild chocolate nutty malt aroma, with a more sweet taste. Some caramel in there. Ok, but I’m not really a huge fan.

Draft to taster at BBC. Looks solid; a transparent copper with iff-white lacing. Smells and tastes malty and nutty with hints of caramel and an average mouthfeel. Enjoyable.

Unfortunately I didn’t take down good tasting notes beyond the numbers for this one!

this one was all over the place .. . pours a medium tan .. light foamers .. . why do women soccer players just not have tits? .. light brown bread, un sweetened maple syrup, and light nuts .. . light mouth, muddled finish - just average .. . . "Spin-off!" Is there any word more thrilling to the human soul?

Sample at BBC on 9/13/13. Clear brown pour with a medium off-white head. Malt and pungent fruit on the nose with a bit of nuttiness. Malty flavor with stone fruit accents before a dry finish.
