Not too much aroma. Good nutty flavor carries throughout. The more you drink the more of a bite comes through. BeerandBlues2 (13697) - Escondido, California, USA - DEC 31, 2005
Draught at brewpub. Pours mahagony, dark brown with an edgy foamy tan head. Sweet caramel and brown sugar malt and nutty aroma with light hop notes. Bitter acidic hop and caramel malt flavor, yeasty finish. Medium bodied and thin, spicy palate. Murphy (1759) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - SEP 12, 2006
Pours with no head, body is a dark ruddy red-brown, some cloudiness. Aroma is buttery, nutty, sweet, almost too much. Taste is bitter, slight oxidation. Sweet, nutty, very mineralized. Finish brings out nuttiness. Body is pretty watered down. Optigon (562) - Bloomington, Indiana, USA - NOV 11, 2007
Pours brown, hazy, with a minor head. Aroma is mild with caramel and coffee. Flavor is coffee and caramel. Rather malty. Overly thin mouth feel for my tastes. DerBiermeister (586) - Birmingham, Alabama, USA - MAY 26, 2008
Smells kind of sweet and cloying. Looks light brown, like water and nuts (little head). The flavour is nutty and sweet with the downside of a burnt / bitter aftertaste. Not much of a palate.

Bottle: Chestnut brown pour with a smaller beige head. Nice lacing. Aroma is malty, earthy, and a little smokey. Lots of chocolate malt. Tastes a little dry and chalky with the heavy chocolate malt. A little bitters, but mostly that malty cocoa feel. Decent body, has potential, but a little lacking. sersdf (1020) - chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 9, 2009
bottle purchased in lexington, ky. clear copper w/o head. this is more chocolatey in aroma than rogue’s chocolate stout. it’s remarkable. it’s like a southern tier. probably extract. a bit of nut and toffee, but it’s mostly all chocolate. at first it tastes horrible, but i just brushed my teeth. i’ll give it another few sips. pretty thin and bland, given the nose. basically water. which actually makes the aroma annoying since it doesn’t work as a session beer because of the aroma and doesn’t work as a good beer because of the flavorlessness. strike one, bluegrass. Bottle shared with Barrios at Woody’s. Pours a near opaque brown with good dark tan head. Nose is nutty and verges on vegetal. Flavor does have a squash note up front but that fades to a nutty characteristic which is fairly pleasant. Medium thin body with medium carbonation. Easy drinking session beer. Pours brown with a thin off white head. Smells nutty and earthy. Tastes watery and earthy with some sweetness on the finish. bethmatt0421 (337) - Covington, Kentucky, USA - FEB 24, 2006
Brown in color with a thin white head that stays. An almost astringent nutty aroma? Like burnt wood. An average nutty, roasty flavor. They did a great job on getting that "english ale" flavor in there. It’s also watery, like many english ales. A good beer. Definitely not insulting to the palate.
