Bottle at home, fun artwork as well. Pours a black abyss of a body with a cascading coffee esk head that settles to a dark tan lacing that grips the sides of the glass. Aromatically very woody and malty. Immediate oak, wood tones, saw dust like which seems to impede the brightness of the chocolate malt tones. A touch of coco and light roastiness. Chocolate, coco, and woody flavor with a bitter drying coffee and woodiness. Feels a bit thin for the suggested ABV, but does have a nice bitter sting that rolls over the tongue leaving hints of dark chocolate and bitter roast. A decent offering. Soft carbonation and medium bodied. Nice. jkwood04 (5452) - Connecticut, USA - MAR 29, 2011
On tap in a lager glass. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, and some floral hops. Flavor about the same with sweetness like bubble gum on the finish. Smooth texture. A pretty good porter. markwise (5441) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - FEB 7, 2012
750mL bottle in trade from drfabulous. Cheer, Jeff! Pours a dark porter brown with a medium tan head. Nose is roast, dark fruit, earth, and cocoa. Flavor is similar with some roast, some coffee, some dark fruit, and some earth. Very light in body for the style and little hint of the alcohol present except for the sweetness. heemer77 (5358) - Urbandale, Iowa, USA - JAN 18, 2008
Thanks for sharing, general_gao. The body is black with a light brown head. The aroma has green beans with some dark chocolate. There are also some plum notes. The taste has roasted walnuts with some dark chocolate and raisins. The body was surprisingly light. Nicely done. hotstuff (5177) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - MAR 13, 2008
Bottle. Small fizzy tan head that was mostly lasting, next to no lacing, very little carbonation noted, semi-opaque, and a dark brown hue with a reddish tint. Nose was semi-roasty, sweet, chocolate, and some dark fruit. The flavor was roasty, chocolate, semi-sweet, dark fruits, and a hint of alcohol. Finishes dry. Smooth, dry mouthfeel and medium body. Quaffable, good for the style, nicely done, ABV well masked, well balanced, and worthy of a try.

Poured a clear very dark brown with a thin beige head. The aroma was roasty, smokey and doughy. Roasted malt flavor that was light and dry from front to back. Dry bitter finish. HonkeyBra (4044) - Lemont, Illinois, USA - NOV 9, 2009
ugh, posted a long rating of it and it got lost in some internet Fail. Someone handed me a glass of this at FoBAB 09 and said it sucked and I drank it because I’m self destructive like that. Dark black pour with no head when I received it. Pungent aroma of onions, earth and chocolate. The bourbon used in this kind of beer imparts a distinct onion/B.O. flavor. It’s also harshly bitter, I’m kind of hating, but these guys need to serious figure out what’s wrong with their barrels : this same off note was in the Jefferson Reserve Imp Stout. 750ml from my man StFun - thanks, Josh!!! Decided to sample this as NFL preseason kicks off (yes, I am lame). Nice dark brown pour, thick and oily, and with minimal head but some decent sticky lace. Strong chocolate notes in the aroma, along with slight fruity and lactic traits. Really enjoyable mouthfeel, the kind of thing that’s great to roll around in the mouth. Silky feel is abetted by the recurrence of Baltic properties in the flavor, and there are also some fine bitter and smoke elements coming in there. But overall it’s a thick milkshake of a beer, and quite enjoyable as such.
