COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our imagined homage to an early 19th century porter brewed & blended by the Washington Brewery (located in DC’s Navy Yard from 1805 -1836); this porter is a blend of 3 brews, each also inspired by historic offerings from the Washington Brewery, and each brewed from the same base recipe, but to varying strengths: 25% #1 - strong ale (6.7% abv; finished with Brettanomyces), 37.5% #2 - x ale (8.5% abv), 37.5% #3 - table beer (2.6% abv; soured with Lactobacillus); crafted with traditional ingredients (Thomas Fawcett amber malt & molasses),classic American-grown cluster hops & Virginia-grown wheat; brewed in collaboration w/ local beer historian Michael Stein

[7129-20150305] Tap. Fragrant chocolate malt and fruity grains aroma. Clear, brown cola body with a quick foamy off-white head. Light yeasty chocolate malt and toasted grains flavour. Medium-full body. Good, simple. (7/3/8/4/15) 3.7

Overheard: "My heart says, ’Chocolate and ice cream!’ My jeans say, ’For the love of God, woman, eat a salad.’"

Brown with thin tan head. Aroma: funk, dried fruit, hints of malt. Palate is thinner than expected (good though). Vanilla, molasses, oaky and sour funk on the finish.

Draft. Pours brown with a beige head. Mild fruity acidity, some sweet malts, mild toasty notes, and some light flowery hoppy bitterness. Interesting to try, and quite tasty as well.

Sampled on tap at the brewery. Pours a disgusting looking muddy brown with some white head that faded fast. Aroma has soggy bread, mild vinegar, some cocoa powder and not much else. Flavor is the same, watery malt, soggy bread, hints of apple cider vinegar, cocoa. Watery finish.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a hazed brown with a thin white head. Big roast and sweet plum on the nose, a touch of earthy cocoa. Medium bodied, tart and funky, old fruit. Tangy and roast filled on the finish. Old fruit and funk. Interesting stuff, nice funky yeast.

2015-03-05. Mahogany brown body with a moderate beige head. 3+ Aroma of tangy roast, lightly fruity. Flavour is similar, very tangy and lightly roasty. Smooth average bodied palate, low carbonation. Good take on what they are going for but the way the tangy character is really not to my tastes. On tap at Bluejacket, Washington DC.
