On tap at Bluejacket. Really complex barley wine unlike anything I've ever had. Smooth and boozey with forward chocolate and spice with some vanilla.

Tap at the brewery. Smells of old leather, caramel, spice, and looks the part. Taste buttered toast, toffee, and a bit of smoked meats. Would’ve gotten another but that 13.5% snuck up on me. The sherry is a nice touch...Simply divine!

Draft from Arsenal. Pours black with a thin khaki head. Big alcohol notes on the nose. Big wood notes on the tongue which works well for this style. Hides it's booze well. Solid example of style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at the brewery. Poured a very dark, ruby, amber color. Head was small and off-white. Aroma was sweet malts, boozy, vanilla, toffee and some sherry notes. Flavor was dark fruit notes, heavy caramel and a touch of soy. Drinkable, but the alcohol is not as well masked as the bourbon version I had of this one.

A spectacular English BW. The nose gives you a hint of what is to come - very fresh tastes of sherry, toffee, spice and roasted malt predominate. The taste has more of the same with added elements. Toasted malt, dark toffee, sherry, a touch of slightly bitter coffee, vanilla and toasted bread work well together. The toffee taste keeps growing through the taste experience, balanced by a slight sourness. Dense and warming, sweet but not cloying - a real gem by Bluejacket.

A BIG smooth sipper. Rich toasted toffee and caramel greats the nose and palate. Cocoa, spices, vanilla and even light coffee. Hints of tobacco. Sherry is sweet and lightly fruity with juuuust a hint of tart. A decadent treat.

Where: Bluejacket, Navy Yard, DC.
How: 10 ounce snifter pour, on tap at source.
Appearance: Pours a reddish brown, no head at all.
Aroma: Definitely hits you in the aroma category, massive amounts of sherry and toffee notes.
Taste: Follows the nose, but with vanilla and MORE sherry flavors. Quite powerful.
Palate: A bit syrupy, molasses-like.
Overall: Pretty darn good, and definitely different than all the other Bluejacket High Society variations.
