Originally called "Ouden Tripel", this ancient West Flanders Brown beer has found a new lan as a regional specialty under its current name: "Bellegems bruin". The main ingredients of our Bellegems Bruin are malted barley, wheat, hops, water, and caramelized malts. These are used to brew a top-fermented beer. Blending this beer with lambic beer aged in oak for 18 months results in this specific West Flanders Brown beer. Its typical flavour is characterized by a well-balanced, hardly noticeable sourness. This first flavour impression is soon followed by a second pleasant discovery: a slight bitterness followed by a hint of sweetness.

250 ml bottle as Vanderghinste Oud Bruin. BB 08/10/14. From belgianbeerfactory.com.
Dark reddish brown colour with a small off-white head. Sourness, vinegar, tart berries and mild sweetness in the aroma. The flavour is tartness, sourness and mild sweetness. Pretty decent Oud Bruin.

Good sourness, not over the top. Some sweetness in the aftertaate With light malty tones, caramell, feels like homemade caramell just before it gets burnt.

Ruby-red with hints of brown in the glass with a beige head. The nose is not too sour, slightly fruity. The beer starts fruity, not too sour. Full of aroma. The mainpart has hints of dark cherries, nice sourness, hints of wood. Probably a bit too sweet. The aftertaste is long, intense. Wood, dark red fruits, moderate sourness, only hints of hops.
Nice brew, but for me a bit too sweet. Nice fruity-sour characteristics! --> 12/12/10/11

A delicious sour. Sour cherries predominate. Tart smell. Not the most sour of sours, but the malty bitterness that replaces it is well worth it.
