Originally called "Ouden Tripel", this ancient West Flanders Brown beer has found a new lan as a regional specialty under its current name: "Bellegems bruin". The main ingredients of our Bellegems Bruin are malted barley, wheat, hops, water, and caramelized malts. These are used to brew a top-fermented beer. Blending this beer with lambic beer aged in oak for 18 months results in this specific West Flanders Brown beer. Its typical flavour is characterized by a well-balanced, hardly noticeable sourness. This first flavour impression is soon followed by a second pleasant discovery: a slight bitterness followed by a hint of sweetness.

Very nice Oud Bruin. Pours a deep amber color, some tartness in the nose with a hint of sour cherry. Flavor is very typical of the style. A pleasing tart cherry, caramel combo. Has a balanced acidity and refreshing finish. A good introduction to the style for anyone.

Very musty (too much), corky, green apples, light medium acidity, mineral, very light chocolate and caramel roasty sweetness.

Pours a dark brown color, topped with a minima tan colored head, non-lasting. Soury vinous nose, green apples and the like. Mild soury start, a tad puckery vinous/cidery feel. Finishes with some fruity sweetness. Light body and quite nice brew.

250ml bottle at Beerfox Riga. Very dark clear ruby with medium sized pinkish beige head that doesnt last long. Plums, sour berries, apple, bit vinegar in aroma. Taste is soursweet, crisp, plums, cherries, dry, woody. Fizzy carbo makes it really enjoyable, medium bodied and very easily drinkable but still surprisingly tastefull brew. Nice!

Shared bottle after All Souls. Better than score would indicate- really solid example of style. Well balanced with dark fruits (cherry, raisin) without being overly sweet. Somewhat sour but not overly so. Bit of funk but easy going overall. I would drink this regularly if it werent for the price.

Cola reddish brown but clearer. Lightly fizzing with no head. Big on flavour. Slightly sour berries, sherberty sweetness, dry finish. Pleasant caramel malt depth keeps it grounded. Very easy drinking.

This is a more of a mellow Flanders than I like or am used to. Still enjoying this one. Mild aroma of wood, sour cherry and funky cheese stuff, vinegar. Tastier as it warms but I know this will change in a less enjoyably sharp way if I let it sit too long. Vinegar, tartness, fruits, dark caramel, wood. Enmjoyable and mellow overall. Im way to used to crushing pints of The Duchesse while slaying the pinball world.
