The beer Cuvée des Jacobins is unblended old lambic, aged for at least 18 months in (French) oak barrels from the cognac region. These oak barrels are called ’Foeders’ in Dutch. It has a robust character but is beautiful and sophisticated with a full body and overtones of vanilla, dried cherry, stone fruit and cocoa. It is a complex, beautiful sour beer.

DAA; Pours clear reddish brown with a fast deminishing off-white head. Aroma is sour, malty, dried fruity, vanilla and alcohol. Flavour mirrors, adding sour, cherry and caramell. Body is medium, texture is oily and the carbonation is soft to avarage. Yes, its a complex, beautiful sour beer with a lasting sour, fruity finish.

0.33 bottle, 5.5%. Dark brown ale color, filtered. Smell of cherries. Fruity taste with a hint of oak in the finish. Bitter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Fruity smell. Colour like a dark red wine, fresh, white foam. Wow! Taken by storm. An incredible fruity taste comes over me. Lemon, lime, orange. Mayne something sweet. Mild bitterness, medium sweetness, extremly sour. Good to share ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft - Vintage 2010 - Red sour grape, little cherry and some oak. Clear mahogany with a thin beige head. Sour grape me oak, but there is something missing which a in the smell. Just a bit flat and boring. Still good, just not the WOW I was hoping for.

330 ml bottle. Pours a clear deep amber brown-red with a resilient beige head. Aroma is fruits, acetic acid, wood, vanilla. Flavor is red berries (by the ton), wild yeast (also by the ton), vanilla, wood. A true delight. Finish is brett funk, moisture, sour and tart as hell. Full bodied, soft mouthfeel, weak to average carbonation. Even my girlfriend would’ve had the whole bottle, and that’s saying a lot. I’d say I consider this a masterpiece.

From 12oz bottle (thanks, Rob). Pours a clear dark copper with lots of head. Classic sour aroma featuring cherries. Tastes like a sour that would get a darn good reception from those who like sours. Sadly, I am still learning a taste for sours (apparently I am a slow learner)... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured on tap from Poppy’s in Estes Park, CO. sour and a bit of malt on nose: tastes of red sour fruit, vinegar, sweetness (fruity) underneath, really nice finish. as it warms, there is more funk on the taste, but stays underneath the sour fruit lambic character. Super delicious.

UPDATED: APR 14, 2015 Appearance: deep dark ruby color, clear, pours with a medium head that’s kind of beige Aroma: sour, tart, red grapes, hint of funk Taste: strong tart, strong sour, wine grapes are there too, aspects of red wine in there, green apple Palate: lively carbonation, leaves mouth dry, lighter mouthfeel Overall: this is an intensely sour and tart beer, very delicious to me even if I’m missing the complexity that’s apparently in there, very subtle hints of wildness, has that kriek cherry Taste to it ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
