3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Deep ruby pour with a persistent off-white head. Aroma is tart cherries, green grapes, wet wood, and cinnamon. Tart raspberries, cherries, and oak, with just enough bready malt sweetness. Quite good.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at O’Riley & Conways, pours a clear dark red with a thin head, the aroma had all kind of funk and fruit with quite a bit of vanilla from the barrels too, the flavor has a tart front end with quite a bit of vinegar in the finish, but in a good way, almost reminds me of the first time I tried La Folie, really nice.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Brings to mind the flavours and aromas of great balsamic vinegar - in a good way! Vanilla, cherry, and raspberry on the nose and tongue. A deep red mahogany in the glass with almost no head but some lacing. Citrus and fruit on the nose. Sour taste predominates. Complex. Not for everyone, but interesting.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Here’s a post-midnight wink for myself, a bottle of a style I love dearly but haven’t had in a while. Nose is beautifully tart and sour with balsamic character, deep cherry. Pours deep blood red with a soapy off-tan head. Taste is puckeringly sour and tongue-stripping, strong fruit character that rewards the back and non-lingual organs of the mouth as much as the tongue, cherry with some raspberry and strong grainy smooth wood. Fat body, little carbonation, nice firm burn from the acidity, good acetic, too. Mild funk throughout (actually tends toward the cleaner side of that scale), light lactic. Much more than others, this has quintessential essence of cherry stones! Unexpectedly aggressive, but delicious and worth seeking out.

330ml Bottle. Pours a nice amber/brown, with no head, no lacing. Aroma is complex. Leather, wood, tobacco, and raspberry. Taste is of pungent sour fruit, starts sweet and finishes very sour. A seriously sour beer!

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Advent beer #18: 11.2oz bottle - Jacobin: I associate it with the political club (featuring Robespierre!) during the French Revolution. Sour nose - no specific ingredient. Sip adds soopa cringe to muh face. Sourness aside, I get red berries (the unripe kind). My nose is sweating. I get no Cognac, vanilla or cocoa. Again, I don’t know why I have sour ales in the Beer Advent Calendar; AndyReynolds was there with me at Sergio’s when he suggested I get a Duchesse de Bourgogne. He saw my face when I tried it and he finished the beer. I get a sour apple aftertaste. As it warms and I acclimate to the sourness, it gets better, but not 3.91 better: my rating went from a 2.7 to a 3.2 in about five sips.
