COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The beer Cuvée des Jacobins is unblended old lambic, aged for at least 18 months in (French) oak barrels from the cognac region. These oak barrels are called ’Foeders’ in Dutch. It has a robust character but is beautiful and sophisticated with a full body and overtones of vanilla, dried cherry, stone fruit and cocoa. It is a complex, beautiful sour beer.

330 ml bottle. Pours a clear deep amber brown-red with a resilient beige head. Aroma is fruits, acetic acid, wood, vanilla. Flavor is red berries (by the ton), wild yeast (also by the ton), vanilla, wood. A true delight. Finish is brett funk, moisture, sour and tart as hell. Full bodied, soft mouthfeel, weak to average carbonation. Even my girlfriend would’ve had the whole bottle, and that’s saying a lot. I’d say I consider this a masterpiece.

From 12oz bottle (thanks, Rob). Pours a clear dark copper with lots of head. Classic sour aroma featuring cherries. Tastes like a sour that would get a darn good reception from those who like sours. Sadly, I am still learning a taste for sours (apparently I am a slow learner)... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured on tap from Poppy’s in Estes Park, CO. sour and a bit of malt on nose: tastes of red sour fruit, vinegar, sweetness (fruity) underneath, really nice finish. as it warms, there is more funk on the taste, but stays underneath the sour fruit lambic character. Super delicious.

UPDATED: APR 14, 2015 Appearance: deep dark ruby color, clear, pours with a medium head that’s kind of beige Aroma: sour, tart, red grapes, hint of funk Taste: strong tart, strong sour, wine grapes are there too, aspects of red wine in there, green apple Palate: lively carbonation, leaves mouth dry, lighter mouthfeel Overall: this is an intensely sour and tart beer, very delicious to me even if I’m missing the complexity that’s apparently in there, very subtle hints of wildness, has that kriek cherry Taste to it ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Ambrée foncée, effervescence moyenne-faible, col très fin. Cerises très sûres, pommes, plutôt boisée, vinaigrée. Pas mal dans le genre mais un peu trop acide à mon goût.

Deep ruby pour with a persistent off-white head. Aroma is tart cherries, green grapes, wet wood, and cinnamon. Tart raspberries, cherries, and oak, with just enough bready malt sweetness. Quite good.

On tap at O’Riley & Conways, pours a clear dark red with a thin head, the aroma had all kind of funk and fruit with quite a bit of vanilla from the barrels too, the flavor has a tart front end with quite a bit of vinegar in the finish, but in a good way, almost reminds me of the first time I tried La Folie, really nice.

mmahut (1859) - CZECH REPUBLIC - DEC 31, 2013
Pours in red body with huge creamy foam. Aroma is sour cherry, sweet blody orange. Taste is very sour, almost vinegary. Palete is torwards sourness, no sweet. Body is light, carbo high. Pickles.
