COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The beer Cuvée des Jacobins is unblended old lambic, aged for at least 18 months in (French) oak barrels from the cognac region. These oak barrels are called ’Foeders’ in Dutch. It has a robust character but is beautiful and sophisticated with a full body and overtones of vanilla, dried cherry, stone fruit and cocoa. It is a complex, beautiful sour beer.

Pours a deep dark reddish brown color with big off white heads. Tart aroma with some dark fruit type character. Flavor is sour, tart, and has a lot of fruity type flavors...cherry mostly and light cranberry type bitterness. One of my favorite "easy to get" sours, hands down.

Intense sour beer with a delightful fruity layer and a nice hint of oak. Sticky mouthfeel. Very good.

Aroma is barnyardish and kinda funky. I also get some cherries. The flavor has prominent cherries and apples with some slight flavors of chocolate, vanilla and oak. One of the best sours i’ve had!

On tap at Dutch’s. Clear, beautiful very dark red color. Thin khaki head, leaves good spread of lace. Medium body, lightly sticky. Lighter, lightly prickly carbonation. Great dark fruit, cherry, oak, vanilla, woody spicy notes. Good prickly bigger sour taste, creates a light buzzing sensation in the back of my head. Light sweet. Good long sour sticky fruity aftertaste. A fantastic belgian sour red, maybe one of the best I’ve ever had.

Sample from bottle at the Beer Enthsiast stand at Nærbø, Ølfestivalen 2013. Clear mahogany colored body with no head.. Chutney nose and mouth. A bit thin even a hint of chlorine is detectable. Medium bodied with a long pleasant finish.

Arome tres timide des petits fruits. Mousse tres peu dense qui se dicipe tres rapidement. Les gout n’est pas tant acidule mais tres bon. Belle couleur rouge brunatre. Bonne biere mais...faut pas virer fou.

Tap at the Jeffrey. Pours reddish brown with thin soapy head. Nose of cherries and vinegar. Tastes of balsamic, rhubarb, cherries, funky, vanilla, and earth. Sweet finish and a sticky palate.

UPDATED: OCT 28, 2013 Bottle: muddled, deep shade of brown with some dark ruby all around. Big-bubbled cap with a soapy formation that sinks to a skin quickly and leaves a little bit of lacing in the process. Aroma is fantastics; sour & rich black cherries, grape skins, wet oak, vinegar, tart lemon flesh, a touch of vanilla, & even a bit of back-end cocoa powder. Extremely vinous, tart, & slightly acidic. Taste is fill of sour cherries, balsamic vinegar, grapes, oak, faint lactic acid, & oak-induced vanilla smoothness. Sour & puckering, quenching & delicious with a finishing oak & cherry tartness that keeps you thirsty for more. Dry finish. One of my favorites of the style, & the availability is great.

UPDATED: JUL 31, 2014 Bottle. I love a good sour and this is a great one. Pours a beautiful mahogany with a light head around the edges. Smell is rich and complex with cherry, tobacco, chocolate and more. Taste does not have the sweetness that the aroma might lead you to believe. It’s impressively sour with just a slight touch of sweet -- exactly what I want from a Flanders Red.
