The beer Cuvée des Jacobins is unblended old lambic, aged for at least 18 months in (French) oak barrels from the cognac region. These oak barrels are called ’Foeders’ in Dutch. It has a robust character but is beautiful and sophisticated with a full body and overtones of vanilla, dried cherry, stone fruit and cocoa. It is a complex, beautiful sour beer.

Very rich nutty sour beer with black cherry, chocolate, balsamic, and light vanilla. Very tart and acidic but a nice maltyness balances things a bit.

Bottle. It pours a small, dense, light beige head over a clear, amber body. Cherry, wood, lemon and some oxidation in the aroma. Lightly funky. It’s dry on the palate, medium bodied and soft, with cherry, some oxidation, wood and lemon. Fruity, sourish, cherry finish that lasts for some time. A quite pleasant one, but not impressive. It sort of lacks a bit on most things. 130216

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear reddish amber with an off-white head. Very sour, Bretty and funky nose. Medium body, tart berry-like character, loads of Brett and acid, with a sour astringent finish. Very enjoyable. 160213

Smell of fermented hay (silo). Sour berries tickles the nose. Looks georgeous, seetrough reddish brown with a thin white head. Taste is sour cherries mixed with a smooth vanilla flavour. I'm not normally into sour ales, but a friend said you just have to taste them enough times. Turns out he's right, I really enjoy this one :) ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
