(Bottle BB 14/09/08) Anise, licorice and spicy aroma. Red brown colour, slightly hazy and brownish, average size, very slightly lasting head with good lacing. Sweet, malty, anise, fruity and licorice flavour. Lively carbonated, warming (alcohol does not taste) and medium to full-bodied palate. Excellent, tasty brew! 16/11/06 epassa (105) - Sao Paulo, BRAZIL - MAR 12, 2007

Purs dark brown with off white head. Sweet maltness in teh aroma. The flavor has a good bitterness to it along with the nice sweetness. Nice finish. armando629 (2456) - Budapest, HUNGARY - NOV 16, 2008
Happy Santa Claus on the label, devilish beer inside...Dark ruby body with a tan, superb and delicious head. Complex aroma with some wild fruits, dried plum, coffe and caramel, some spicy perfume like clove and vanilla. Thick body, oily texture, sweet candy sugar in the taste with a lot of fruitiness, dark chocolate and coffee. Strong character with a freaky santa:) Embrouille (2854) - SWITZERLAND - DEC 15, 2008
Bottled 33cl. Appearance: It pours a beautiful clear deep ruby beer with a creamy beige head of an average size which leaves a nice lacework. Aroma: Huge amounts of brown sugar, maple syrup and nutmeg which are accompanied by notes of honey, aniseed and mince pies. Some walnuts sneaking in? Very Christmassy in my opinion and extremely pleasant. Flavor and palate: Sweet. Really smooth. Full bodied. Malty. Hints of maple syrup, brown sugar, nutmeg, plums, licorice, rosemary and honey. Yeasty. Aniseed showing up with the swallow. Perfectly balanced. Peppery. Residual sugars in the finish which is malty with reminiscent aniseed, plums, yeast and cinnamon. But some slight unpleasant characteristics appear: Vegetable notes and a slight sourness. Definately dissapointing comparing with all the outstanding components. Overall impression: Flawless strong, extremely pleasant aroma, beautiful, rich and complex. A great Christmas beer. Thanks a lot Bov for this one!

Gehbe (451) - Vilnius, LITHUANIA - NOV 26, 2016
Clear amber brown with a huge beige head and nice lacing. Aroma of caramel, toast, strawberries, spice, candy, baguette crust, hints of zest and cooked bread. Tastes sweetish upfront, immediately followed up by carbonation sourness; light bitter notes on finish. Full body, high carbonation, smooth texture, not as sticky as expected, nice light warmth on finish. Amazing! TAR (2778) - Blue Ridge Mountains, North Carolina, USA - JAN 19, 2003
UPDATED: FEB 20, 2003 Deep copper brown. Zero foam. Yeast laden aroma. Underlying notes of ginger, toasted bread, mint, port wine, fruit cake, and wood. Lovely mouthfeel with with lots of fluffiness, which is yielded by a wonderful job of the bottle conditioning. Huge malt notes of crystal and a trace of peatiness. Very unique and delicious flavors compliment the sweet malts ingeniously with spruce, juicy fruit gum, herbal traits, and pepper. Long malty finish with a perfect touch of numbing spice. Very Christmasy and just what I was seeking in this spicy Bruin style. sayravai (4710) - Helsinki, FINLAND - NOV 23, 2003
UPDATED: FEB 17, 2009 (Bottled, 0.75l) Hazy orangeish brown color with medium, beige head. Quite spicy, fruity and bitter-hoppy aroma with toffee hints. Sweetish-malty, nicely spicy, toffee flavor with a strong anise finish. Smooth, medium to full-bodied, slightly sugary-sticky and wineous, quite bitter palate with some alcohol and foamy carbonation. A very enjoyable, full-bodied and spicy Belgian christmas ale - like a mixture of Orval and Westmalle Dubbel. Tastes great even at room temp. (0.33l bottle) Quite sweet, no Orval sourness, simpler than a big bottle. Would score 3.7. skortila (5966) - Baarn, NETHERLANDS - MAR 13, 2004
Yeasty, malty-sweetish and fruity aroma with some hints of pepper or other spices. Quite decent. Cloudy, dark brown coloured with a thin, lasting and off-white head. Yeasty, sweetish-roasted malty taste (toffee) with some spices (pepper again?) and fruits (grapefruit). More bitter in the middle and in the finish. Dry and bitterness in the end. Very decent brew.
