Draft at the brewery. Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (malt syrup, wort, roasted grain, husks). Flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, unclean, husky. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
Shockingly poor compared to the wonderful Czech pils. How does the same brewery make both? Raw and dirty and rather sour too...couldn’t even stomach a 2oz sample. bytemesis (8411) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - NOV 16, 2016
They are calling this a Schwarzbier now on their menu, FWIW. Tap. Pours deep clear Ruby black, medium beige head, good lacing. Aroma is super roasty, lactose, a bit ashy. Flavor has a touch too much sweetness, light bitterness. A bit odd. Stale coffee? Light plus body. Jow (3925) - New York, USA - AUG 17, 2016
Can from sledutah who helped me gather a bunch of these strange brews I was after. Cherry brownish black pour. Nose is dried fruit light cola. Tastes of flat cola, dried red fruits like cherry and raspberry, some caramel, and bread as well. Light bodied. I haven’t had a lot of dunkler bocks but this isn’t quite what I look for in a beer. Tangy odd aroma with copper. Amber pour with good head and lacing. Bottle. Travlr (24786) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - JUL 10, 2016
Can. Clear ruby maroon color, tan head. Aroma of brownies and fruitcake. Taste is sweet malty roast. Very nice. snoworsummer (5697) - baltimore, Maryland, USA - JUN 21, 2016
Draft at Taggarts. Pours dark nut brown with a thick, bubbly beige head. Tastes like dry toasted malt, dried dark fruits, earthy, woody, and light booze. Medium body and low carbonation. Smells like dried dark fruits, toasted malt, earthy, woody, and light booze. iguanodon (151) - Bountiful, Utah, USA - JAN 23, 2016
Can. Dark brown with a thick tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel. Taste is the same with a little coffee and chocolate. Not too bad though I’m not a fan of the style. ogre71 (359) - Utah, USA - OCT 24, 2015
Not a style that I care for, but it’s drinkable pours dark very little head a little heavy on the palate.
