3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
bread, floral, golden, hazy, frothy, initial lightly bitter, finish medium sweetness, light body, thin feel, sticky, average carbonation
Draft at the brewery. Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, fully lasting. Body is medium to dark yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain, cookie), lightly hoppy (flowers). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
At first I thought I was given the wrong beer because the color was so much paler than expected, but that’s partly because this was a sample in a narrow glass. Great head retention, as usual. Whereas the Czech pils aroma leaped from the same sort of glass, this seems to hide and say nothing at all. And just sweet and flabby in the mouth. Not as bad as the Schwarz, but very dull. I’m really pleased they got the pils dialed in, but it sure would be nice if their other brews were closer to that level. 3fourths (9358) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - NOV 27, 2016
Toast and honey, fall leaves and paper, sweet pastries and artificial apricot hoppiness. Light bodied, sweet with low bitterness, kind of unremarkable and plain but it is clean and the carbonation suits the sweetness and body. bytemesis (9215) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - NOV 16, 2016
Tap. Pours clear orange, medium off white head, dissipates fairly quickly, good lacing. Aroma is grassy, grain, hint of nuttiness. Flavor is light sweet, light bitter. Light body. Decent. nimbleprop (8750) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - JUL 26, 2016

Packaged on 4/14/16, consumed on 5/8/16. Golden orange. Fleeting white head settles into the wispiest collar. Pleasant nose of marmalade-kissed toast, vanilla cookie, creamed coffee, and hay dust. Trace of melanoidins is marred by hints of marzipan and fruit chews. Light tickle of loose-bubbled carbonation. Fluffy malt textures inundate the palate, backed by a gripping contrast of toasted pumpernickel bread and softer tobacco. Hint of sweet pecan accentuates the earthy medley of flavors. Subtle tartness and a slippery orangey fruitiness quickly emerge and hamper the drinkability as the body takes on a distracting limpness and sugary sweetness. A smattering of dusty melanoidins pokes through at times as the malt is thoroughly extracted. Well integrated hops show a fairly high level of oily flowery petal notes as well as an elegant and rustic tealike effect, although the sweetness is unassuaged. Rich, but wet, maltcentric finish is dabbed with an aniseed-like hoppiness and lingering spicy tobacco. I’m a bit surprised by the mediocrity of this, after having consumed several cans of the superlative pils. The malt does boast moderate depth from this having been decocted, but it’s too sweet and unclean to drink much of. Nice aroma, but that’s about it. Okay. Thanks for the can, Sledutah. ogre71 (359) - Utah, USA - SEP 13, 2015

On tap @ Bohemian. Light amber pour with a white head. Bready, toasty malts dominate. Some mild floral hops and a bit of fruity ester qualities. Slight caramel to it, too. A bit more bitter than I’d normally expect. Still, really nice malt sweetness and bready character. Nice. queenholly (3623) - South Whitley, Indiana, USA - OCT 3, 2014
Draft @ brewery. Light caramel malt aroma. Clear copper with a large off-white head. Caramel malt and grassy hops flavor. Body on the light side of medium, soft carbonation. slowrunner77 (12804) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 23, 2014
"Kinda surprised by this one. Not a big fan of the style but the floral hop/toasted malt balance was done well. Head to head was almost better than the pilsner..."
