Taps coffee brown with a thick and lasting tan head. Aroma offers roast malt, smoky hops and molasses notes. Flavor presents charred hops, roast malt, coffee, molasses and toffee tones. Mouthfeel features good body and lively fizz. Join this society. dangjdangel (40) - - OCT 6, 2012
Is this a black ipa or a stout? Not tasting the hops I was expecting; very malty and smokey. Not a big fan.

On tap at brewery, pours a very dark brown almost black with a thick off white head and sticky lacing, the aroma is way roasty and the hops really don’t come through at all, the flavor is pretty much the same, more roast and coffee with a slight hop finish, kind of a wierd mouthfeel as well, really wanted this one to be a tad bit more balanced between the roastiness and the hops, but this one is a little too much for me. shadey (2142) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - JUN 4, 2012
On draft at Kickbacks in Jacksonville FL. A very smooth black IPA, with just a small bite of hops in the finish. Otherwise roasty and chocolaty. I was expecting a bit more hop presence in the aroma and in the initial palate, but this was nice. A gentler, less-American, black IPA. drowland (8895) - Georgia, USA - MAY 30, 2012
5/30/12. Growler thanks to Tim! Brown pour with almost no head. Grainy, bitter coffee ground aroma and flavor. Tastes dusty and lacks much hop presence.

This really isn’t hoppy enough for the IPA part, but it does make for a really nice hoppy dry porter.
