3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On draft at Kickbacks. This one pours a dark mahogany brown color and topped by a thin head of tan colored foam that recedes quickly leaving scant lines of lace on the glass. The aroma shows notes of dark chocolate, smooth bourbon, and vanilla laden oak to go with a toasted caramel malt backbone. The bourbon comes through nicely without showing overly boozy. The flavor follows suit with the dark chocolate and some roast followed by the smooth bourbon soaked oak and vanilla. The toasted caramel malt ties everything together nicely. Medium bodied, but a touch thinned out from the barrel with subtle carbonation that leads to a smooth bourbon finish. This one is all about the bourbon, but it is smoothly integrated and really enhances the base beer quite well. This is definitely one of Bold City’s better efforts.
I wasn’t a big fan of their regular brown ale. Was ok but nothing special. This is a stronger version and has a stronger bourbon flavor....so naturally going to be better. Was $3 off growler fill at Total Wine & More, so for $6 it was worth it. Had about 4 different samples from these guys now, and nothing yet has seemed above average. UPDATED: JAN 2, 2015 Florida peeps drinking the Koolaid I guess. Had this on tap at First Magnitude last night. It was the only beer of 8 in my two flights that I couldn’t deal with more than a sip of. Just fracking horrendous. If you’re into cheap college student whiskey with extra water poured into it, then this is your beer. Thin, no malt base whatsoever to be found, watery, and harsh bourbon booze. Whoever brewed this knows it’s awful. Why would they sell this crap? Tmoney99 (14501) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - DEC 17, 2014
Draft. Poured clear brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted malt and bourbon wood aroma. Medium body and a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium bourbon sweet flavor with a medium bourbon sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met. jbruner (4747) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - DEC 7, 2014
Pours a hazy brown on tap with little to no head or lace. Aroma is bourbon vanilla sweetness up front, hint of roasty caramel malt behind it. Taste is big on the bourbon for sure, very nice, sweet and boozy. One of the best beers I’ve had from them. Luvystypotables (1967) - Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA - DEC 7, 2014
Mild almost no existent aroma of malt, pours a clear amber with a short head. Weak malt taste with a watery feel and a phenolic malt finish.

Poured from a can. Part of a blind taste test. Very much a normal lager. Light yellow and clear. Decent head. BREWMUSKCLES (2687) - New Jersey, USA - NOV 10, 2014
caramel and hint of cocoa with a bit of vanilla and a dominant taste of plastic. smooth with substantial and frothy head with essence of scratch. still tastes like someone took whatever was handy and made beer. someone who really knows what they are doing. This was nice. Nutty brown colored beer with an off-white head. Aromas of toasted grains and some caramel. Tastes of hazelnut, woody notes, some toasted grain flavors, and sweet caramel/butterscotch. Sweet, nutty finish. Surprisingly refreshing and quite smooth. Clarkdvm (511) - Florida, USA - APR 29, 2014
Draft. Overly sweet aroma. Standard brown color. Not bitter at all, in fact, too sweet.
