Iím having a Turkish beer today. This bottle was picked up by my younger brother when he was in Turkey this summer. Itís brewed by Anadolu Efes, and itís a bottle of their Bomonti Filtresiz. Itís an unfiltered pilsner brewed with 100% malt Ė no hops! Oh dear lord! Thatís like trying to make peanut butter without peanuts. But letís see what this beer has to offer! Itís pouring a slightly hazy pale golden colored body with a big white head. It smells like a pilsner alright, but without the hops. Most pilsners tend to not be that hoppy anyway, so in a blind ísmell-testí (?!) I probably wouldnít be able to tell that it was a 100% malt bill. The taste is round and soft. You get the pilsner malts but thatís it. Itís not that crisp either. It reminds me of a hefeweizen. That sweet, silky, soft newborn kittens type of mouthfeel Ė if thatís a thing... I really do miss the hops, but for what it is itís pretty nicely put together. Iíve had malt beers that was just so intensely sugary and sweet, but this definitely has some other almost wheaty qualities to it. Iím definitely not a fan of this style of beer, but I canít help but give credit where itís due. Itís one if the best 100% malt pilsners Iíve had Ė but it doesnít score high in my sense of taste. Thanks for the beer bro.

Worlds better than the Efes Xtra I choked back, but thatís setting a pretty low bar. Some malt aroma and the unfiltered vibe is a nice touch. Iíll see how this stacks against the regular version. Bottle with peel off cap drank in a plastic bag by the Hagia Sofia. Culture....

50 cl. bottle. Cloudy straw-coloured pour with frothy but quickly disappearing white head. Aroma is simply malt and bread along with weak citric notes. It has medium sweetness, light sourness and very light bitterness. It is light-bodied, thin-textured and has a watery mouthfeel. Soft to average carbonation. A short, somewhat sticky but still pleasant finish. Quite a nice Pilsener.
