From growler filled at Boneyard. Wonderful taste, and I didn’t know about the 3 Floyds connection until I viewed this beer’s ratings. No wonder they have a couple of Dark Lord Day posters in the tasting room. A truly wonderful quaff from a great brewery!
(Draught at Muted Horn, Berlin, 27 Aug 2017) Dark ruby colour, almost black, with frothy beige head. Malty, roasted, hoppy nose with notes of pine needles, mint, coffee and some ashes. Malty, roasted, hoppy taste with coffee, liquorice, resin, pine needles, grapefruit and a finish with a generous piney bitterness. Full body, with just a touch of sweetness. Medium brown with a big, thick, bubbly head. On the nose, it's leafy hops and chocolate. Actually quite a bit different on the palate. Starts sweet and fudgey, bitter, bit of caramel. There really aren't any brighter hop elements here. I'm ok with that, as it's a different structure to explore. Alcohol blast in the finish fits well with the overall intensity of the beer. Tiny shortlasting head. Aroma is slightly funky grassy, leafs, citrus peel, dried fruits, lawn, pine needles, citrus, hints of brett. Taste is slightly fresh citrusy, old leafs, citrus peel, pine needles, mild brett, hay, hops, grass, citrus, hints of cardboard. Longlasting bitterness, dry mouthfeel. Fair enough, a little strange.
Pours dark with ruby reflexes. Aroma: a very nice aroma of chocolate coupled with caramel, grassy and a touch of herb aromas. On tap at TCBW 2017. Dark mahogany coloured with a beige head. Roasty and rather hoppy aroma with pine, licorice, citrus and hints of herbs. Three Floyd’s and Boneyard, not a bad collaboration. This is an extremely dark, bitter, and strong beer.
