Draft pour at the Brouwers Big Wood festival. Pours a dark near black color with no head. Heavy chocolate and boozy aroma. Super sweet flavor up front, and really smokey palate. Really woody finish. Big league beer here for sure. Good stuff. douglas88 (9572) - Portland, Oregon, USA - DEC 24, 2013
On tap at Beermongers. Pours a pure black color, a small white head. Very viscous. The aroma is dark chocolate, some anise, fruit. The flavor is really dominated by bitter roast, vanilla, licorice, very hot. The fruit is light, some leather. Smurf2055 (1400) - Seattle, Washington, USA - DEC 8, 2013
Pours black, finger tan head.
Smell strong chocolate and oak, rich
Taste bourbon vanilla up front, chocolate roast on tail
Surprisingly thin for how big it should be

On tap at Brouwer’s Cafe for Big Wood 2013, pours black with a small brown head. Aroma of oak barrels, wood, roasted malt and caramel malt sweetness. Flavour brings out loads of booze, roasted malt, wood and caramel malt. Extremely boozy, showing every last percentage of the 14%. Complex, elegant, but boozy. Great stuff, but not too hot to be drunk in much quantity. trevor211 (1681) - Seattle, Washington, USA - DEC 5, 2013
On tap at Brouwer’s Big Wood 2013. Black, with a big, dark, tan head. Pretty. Dry, boozy, and on the sweet side, but toasty and almost crisp at the same time. Oaky, but without much bourbon. Not bad, but definitely on the boozy side,

Rate beer baby! Yup! Who’s the man? Me. Nose of sweet dark chocolate, roasted ashy malt notes, wood, bourbon, dark fruit, and alcohol. Smells balanced and pleasant at 14%. Boneyard is the next cigar city. Pours ink black with tan lace and a soft tan ring of foam. Big bourbon and wood flavors roasted malts dark sweet chocolate a little ash dry wood dark fruit. Roast sugars and vodka in the finish. Incredible balance for the abv. Really a solid beer. Big.bodied. sweet and dry. Lingering dry roast and woody bitterness. Good. boFNjackson (4201) - Portland, Oregon, USA - DEC 29, 2012
Tap @ Roscoes... Poured jet black with a thin, khaki head. Nose had a strong wood and whiskey tone to it. Thick mouthfeel, quite viscous. Sweet with loads of alcohol head. Holy cow this was boozy. Notes of whiskey, wood, malt sweetness, toasted grains, charred wood, burnt brûlée sugar. A tinge of soy sauce, but otherwise a complex sipper.
