Bomber. Caramel malt aroma with notes of toasted malt, cocoa, dark fruit and earthy hops. Pours chestnut colored with a thin tan head that has little retention or lacing. Starts with caramel malt sweetness with notes of toasted malt and dark fruit. Finishes smooth with cocoa flavors as well as a bit of earthy hoppiness at the end. Pretty nice scotch ale. Bottle at home in Colorado. Pours brilliantly clear tawny with a medium, frothy off-white head, long retention with good lacing. Aroma is heavy caramel and toast malt, soft dates and figs, light woody and earthy hops. Flavor is heavy caramel and toast malt, medium dates and figs, light woody and earthy hops and bitterness with a sweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation. Bottled. Roan brown with a big foamy beige head that has good retention. Aroma is sweet malts and caramel. Taste is similar tot he nose, and this is a malt bomb. . Hops are very weak in this brew giving it an unbalanced taste profile. Palate was a bit thinner than i prefer. Overall: Decent Scotch ale but not outstanding. drjay44 (3774) - Salida, Colorado, USA - JAN 9, 2016
651 ml. bottle 7.5% ABV. Bottled 11/18/15. Pours a thick well retained, ivory head, with extensive lacing, over a clear copper (SRM 17) body.....nose is toasted malts, with plum, raisin notes, light herbal hops, with slight woodiness......taste is very slightly sweet, almost dry, slight sherry tones, with light dried fruits, including fig and raisin, hints of wood, becoming mildly bitter......mouth feel, light of medium body, mild alcohol warmth, high carbonation. This is a not unpleasant beer, but it misses the style rather badly. The usual caramel/toffee richness typically found is almost completely lacking. The hops, although mild by American standards, are a bit too obvious. The malt back bone needs re-work, perhaps more decoction which would help. With the slightly higher ABV it is a newer recipe. Bottle. Clear brown colour. Aroma dried fruits, raisins, sherry, fruity. Clear dark brown colour. Taste lightly yeasty, fruity, dried fruits. Very tasty. Alcohol comes out a bit, but that is normal at this temperature. Cuso (8880) - Bratislava, SLOVAK REPUBLIC - APR 10, 2015
Bottle kindly shared by brewer, many thanks Mattew. Dark chestnut color with medium beige head. Chocolate, cocoa nibs, coffee in aroma. Nice malty taste, with chocolate, coffee, molasses, cocoa, spices, alcohol. Tasty. fajry (2157) - SLOVAK REPUBLIC - APR 10, 2015
Fľaša. Tmavo hnedá farba, hnedá pena. Vôňa sladkej čokolády, lieskových orieškov, jemne karamelu. V chuti sladkosť, čokoláda, kakao, lieskové oriešky, jemne cítiť alkohol. Veľmi príjemné sladké, trošku suché doznievanie. Veľmi dobré pivo! Beaver (1822) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - FEB 21, 2014
16 oz can. Pours light ruby brown with a small creamy off-white head that goes to a thin film and leaves some lacing.rollinsr (799) - Atlanta, GEORGIA - DEC 26, 2013
The aroma is sweet caramel peaty malts and molasses.
The flavor is sweet molasses and caramel with some smoky peat and some medicinal bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.
Overall, an ok sweet peaty caramel scotch ale.
Pours dark brown with a thin film of head. Aroma is smoked caramel with some nice nutty notes. Flavor again is sweet caramelized malt with dark candied fruits. Hops add little if anything to this beer which is a very welcome breath of fresh air. Very nice Scottish out of the CO.
