Why would anyone name a handcrafted IPA after Thoprock, the notorious heavy metal festival in Belgium? Just how hard do the hops rock? Are they turned up to 11? Can you handle the shredding? Will it make you cast aside your clothing and dance naked in a field?

Sampled at Northgate Liquors MN beer tasting. Pretty malty IPA overall, with just "OK" hop profile.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber orange with a thick white head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has lots of sweet fruits, Belgian yeast and floral notes with a hint of citrus and a sweet grain backbone. Flavor has light fruits and floral with a growing citrus notes and a light grain backbone.

Draft at the brewery. Amber in color and even keeled all the way. There’s a bit of a hoppy kick, but the body could have a little more oomph. (#5699, 8/31/2014)

Tap at the tap room. Dark gold with small white head. Aroma is subtle. Pine hop. Bitter with some resin and wax feel. Can taste the alcohol. A bit of sour citrus. It’s ok but not great.

This beer combines my favorite beer styles. Belgian, and IPA. This beer is smooth and delicious. Decent amount of hops. Delicious!

4 oz. pour as part of an 8-beer flight, on tap at the brewery’s taproom. Pours a clear deep gold with an orange/red/copper glow in the light and a small amount of beige head. Sweet, resiny, syrupy smell features a pine scent. Flavors of pine, orange peel, and orange. Herbal quality to the taste. There is an unpleasant compost/vomit/chemical element to the flavor. It doesn’t taste as bad as that surely sounds, but it’s well below average for the style and for craft beers in general. Medium body. Smooth, frothy, and a bit oily in the palate.

Pours a cloudy golden color with foamy white head. Yeast, pine, grass, and citrus on the nose; all follow onto the palate. The yeast gives it a bit of chewiness for a nice mouthfeel. Finishes with some spice.

Pours with bubbly white head Strong yeast aroma with slight hoppy citrus Bubbly mouth feel Slight alcohol flavor followed by a sweet bitterness Mmmmm...
