Oude Geuze Boon is one of the finest examples of the traditional 100% spontaneous fermentation Lambic style. To moderate the sourness, Boon Brewery only brews Lambic in the 7 cold months, from early October until April, according to the traditional "turbid mash" system. This Lambic beer is aged for 1, 2 or 3 years in oak casks. The blend, a mild average 18 months old Lambic (unsweetened, unfiltered, unpasteurised) is refermented in the bottle and can be stored up to 20 years. Brewed in Lembeek, the village that gave Lambic its name. Awards at the World Beer Championships: 2008 Gold, 2010 Silver, 2012 Gold Medal.

Bottle. Pours hazy, golden color with medium head. Sharp sour fruity aroma. A stange mixture of champagne, green apple and lemon. Very complex and refreshing, sparkling sour taste. Dry and sour aftertaste. Since this was my first lambic beer the flovour really surprised me. I will probably never be a big fan of the style, but I can see why someone can really appriciate this style.

Pours with typical foam, color is nice cloudy orange-yellow. Aroma has lactic acid, pear, apple, rotten vegetables, campfire, leather jacket, toilet refresher and medicine. Palate is light and the carbonation is fine and dense. Taste is sour (or sour beer like) and has mint, lemon peel, lime, grape seed and pencil. Quite an elegant taste, eventhough some of the tastes sound weird. The sourness is a bit too dominant to my taste, but others might find it a good aspect. Very refreshing as well. Not a top Lambic, but not bad.

Somehow I have never rated this in my time on Ratebeer. First geuze I ever tried and still very nice. 37.5 cL Bottle at home. Pours hazy golden with a large white head. Aroma has some citrus, funk, wood and tartness. Taste is soft to medium sour with citrus, wood, a bit of funk and malts. Medium body and carbo. Nicely balanced gueze, excellent to try for people new to the style.

Barwa jasna, piana szybko znika. Aromat średnio intensywny. W smaku kwaśne ale subtelne i delikatne, goryczka na finiszu nie zbyt mocna. Fajne piwo ale czegoś mi brakuje.

Very easily drinkable. Seems to be the point. Some tartness and green apples, but somewhat relaxed and compromising.

Good but tastes rather subtle: good funk, fruity (citrus), a little bitterness, a little astringent too, a lot of yeast though. Good but no thrills.

2013-2014 vintage, 375 ml bottle. Pours cloudy pale golden, thick white head. Intense aroma is cider, green apple, bread dough, yeast. Taste is very dry and very sour: neither sweetness nor bitterness at all. Lasts longer than I expected. Very nice geuze.
