Oude Kriek Boon is one of the finest examples of the 100% spontaneous fermentation fruit-Lambic style. 400 g of wild cherries per litre are fermented together with a blend of young and old Boon Lambic that has been aged in oak casks. After clarification, the Oude kriek is bottled and refermented. It is unsweetened, unfiltered, unpasteurised and has no artificial flavourings, preservatives or colourings added. Brewed in Lembeek, the village that gave Lambic its name. Pour slowly in a flute glass without disturbing the yeast sediment in the bottle. Cheers !

375 ml. bottle. Pours a dark cherry red with a nice lasting pink head. Aromas of sweet cherries explode from the glass along with almonds and brett aromas from the lambic. On the palate the sourness is definately there, but there is also a nice sweetness from the fruity taste, not from residual sugar. Finishes of dry and well balanced with a nice soft cherry flavour before it ends with a snap of sourness. Very good.

375 ml bottle from Systembolaget (2 year old bottle). Opague dark red with a medium pink head. Sour aroma with cherries and lots of funk. Taste reflects the aroma. Low body, with a dry texture.

2004 bottle that has survived two house moves and a change of wife, but alas not well. The pour raises a few concerns: barely any head. Thin corona of bubbles and minimal evidence of life lower down. Pinky bronze colour. Complex, cidery aroma - fermented apples, turpentine, faint cherry, acetone. Has suffered badly in the rack. Dies on the tongue. Close to flat. Fruits have faded badly, too. Big disappointment. Really needs some fizz to pep it up. Wheres my whisk? Puckering sourness is very much still there and now dominates. Supposed to be good through to 2023, so I guess its a transport and/or storage issue. Either that or I just dont get this particular lambic. Have slowly raised my scoring as the bottle emptied, so its a grower.
