On tap at iO West. Pours brown with a small tan head. Room was dark but that should be about right. Aroma is dry, nutty, earthy, some sweetness (brown sugar? molasses?). Taste is dry, floral, earthy, nutty, but still crisp. I didn’t find this to be super sweet. Medium carbonation. Not bad but not one I’d get again. I had this beer on tap at Brü Grill in Lake Forest. It’s clear brown with a mild roasty flavor. BMan1113VR (7929) - Los Angeles, California, USA - MAR 4, 2012
On tap at the brewery. Pours with a lightly hazed brown hue with a small tan head that fades. Aromas are of leather, nutty, caramel, brown sugar, malty, cereal, medium esters and honey. Flavors are malty, cereal, grainy, floral honey, molasses. Pretty sweet, but all malty good flavors. Medium to a bit too high carbonation. Good. m4rest88 (390) - Beverly Hills, California, USA - MAR 4, 2012

Taster. Rating #4. Pretty much clear except for a slight haze, nice dark brown color with an off-white head. Big toasty and nutty aroma, lots of malt. Flavor is similar, very nutty with some toast. Nice. (2163)

Reddish brown color in the glass. It had a nutty aroma along with some pine. Flavor is caramel along with some bread. Nice finish, Blairgus (4615) - California, USA - SEP 11, 2011
9 Sept 2011, tap at brewery. dark, nut brown, clear, no bubbles. nose is soft, watery and dry dark chocolate. thin body and fizzy. pretty good. i’d call it a stout maybe. acidic, roasted coffee, almost burnt. moderate maltiness doesn’t compete with burnt notes. brokensail (16645) - Dublin, California, USA - AUG 7, 2011
A: The beer pours light brown/dark amber in color with a small off-white head.
S: The nose is pleasantly nutty with a bit of roasted malt and coffee aroma, too. There are some light notes of chocolate and just a hint of molasses. The rest of of the aroma is in the form of toasted bread and toffee.
T: First taste to hit the tongue is sweet toasted bread. That is followed shortly by toffee. There is also a light note of coffee and even some smoked almonds. Finishes up with a little bit of roast and chocolate.
M: The body is medium with a medium, but smooth, carbonation.
O: A pretty complex and interesting brown ale. A nice array of flavors.
