3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Presentation: 12 oz. brown bottle with the "Bottled on" date printed on the label. Served in a Samuel Adams pint glass.
Appearance: Clear gold in color and it develops a two finger head that sticks around for a while then slowly disappears. It leaves almost no lacing.
Smell: Smells mostly of hops with a little bit of malt in the background. It’s not overly aromatic but the smell is noticeable and pleasant.
Taste: It has a perfectly executed hop flavor that’s not shocking or overwhelming, but very present and enjoyable. There’s just enough malt sweetness to balance everything out without ruining the distinct hop character of the brew.
Mouthfeel: Smooth, with little carbonation. It’s medium bodied and finishes dry.
Overall: In an island historically dominated by adjunct lagers, where the "craft beer craze" is just starting to take off, this is some of the best local beer you can buy. It’s hard to get a hold of, but the perfectly balanced flavors, along with the subtle aroma make it worth your time to find and enjoy it.
Draft at La Taberna. Pours a clear pale orange yellow. Not much head but I think it was the bar’s fault. Aromas were a bit earthy, slightly floral. Taste was a tad buttery but mostly old. Just bitterness. Not special. Sonjeroo (20) - - MAR 25, 2016
Light color, light body. Thin head, white. Smells a bit soapy. Very drinkable, but not the least bit hoppy. Sort of odd for the style. 3fourths (9347) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - APR 7, 2015
UPDATED: APR 19, 2015 Bottle. Lightly hazed pale amber with a short white head. Aroma hops are fruit cocktail, lumber, mint toothpaste, cheese rind (old hops). Malt is apple and caramel with an odd Armagnac note. Medium-full bodied, sweet and bitter and rough, somewhat "spicy" with a tingle of alcohol. Typically crude cara malt and tropical-resin hop IPA. unclemattie (4358) - Georgia, USA - MAY 19, 2014
Tap @ Mugs, Hatillo Mug. Pale, orange color. White creamy foam, sexy lacing. Aroma of pale grains, light citrus notes. Tastes of sweet malts, hoppy hoppy hops. Lingering bitterness. Soo good. I’m couldn’t be happier with this beer. Best IPA on the island. (4065) Hkrivera (153) - Guaynabo, PUERTO RICO - JAN 4, 2014
First try from this new island brewery. Nice golden color, light foam on top. The aroma is too subtle for perception. Would love an increase in IBU's for the next batch. Overall, a drinkable and refreshing Portorican IPA.
