COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Garún is named for the strong and brave heroine of one of Iceland’s most popular folktales "The deacon of Dark River (Myrká)." A tale of ghosts, undying love, and life triumphing over death told against the backdrop of elements essential to Iceland’s character: ice, snow, and flooding waters whirling dark and mysterious. The same elements that inspire this rich, intense, bold and swirlingly varied Icelandic stout. Garún is a dark aura of intense richness and haunting aroma with notes of chocolate, licorice and coffee. Skál!"

Grande Birra. Ma proprio grande. Mai più regalo (sorelle in vacanza) fu più gradito. Quante birre blasonate di birrifici altolocate avrebbero da imparare. Una vera imperial, come difficilmente se ne trovano

Great imperial stout, with liquorice flavours and long-lasting taste. It goes very well with the weather.

Bottle (330 ml) at home. Pitch black with a medium rather thick brown head, good retention, leaving some lacing. Aroma features a nice mix of roasted malts, berries and peated notes along hints of vanilla and ashes. Taste is sweet but is just short of being cloying with roasted malts, berries, peat, vanilla, ashes, alcohol notes, caramel and mushrooms. Medium to full body. Moderate to medium carbonation. Berries and vanilla finish with lingering caramel and peated notes. It’s not nearly as refined as the 19.1 version where the cognac fits the profile perfectly but I understand how this flavorful stout can be a really nice base beer for a BA RIS.

hauxe (1022) - Butzbach, Hesse, GERMANY - AUG 7, 2017
On tap at Saeta Svinid in Reykjavik. Black with a thin, creamy head. Aroma is licorice, schnapps. Taste is sweet, fruity, full of red berry and overripe plum. Finishes sweet and increasingly sour with noticeable warmth. Good in small doses, but a big glass will wear out its welcome really quick.

Bottle @ Floris’ Leaving Party. Pours a blackish beer with a thin ring of off white head on top. Aroma of mild coffee, chocolate and burnt caramel. Flavor is roasty chocolate coffee, a bit watery and low in carbonation. One-sided and rather off balance. Meh, decent.

Not a RIS IMHO. Smells of light smokiness and roasty malt. Taste is caramely maltiness and a bit of booze

33 cl bottle from Vinbudin. Label says 2016 "vintage". Pitch black with a thin tanned head. Sweet, roasted aroma with coffee, chocolate and caramel malts. Liquorice and ashes. Subtle booze. Taste is light bitter and roasted. Full body with an oliy texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes drying and roasted bitter with coffee and liquorice. Fine, textbook Imp. Stout.
