COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Garún is named for the strong and brave heroine of one of Iceland’s most popular folktales "The deacon of Dark River (Myrká)." A tale of ghosts, undying love, and life triumphing over death told against the backdrop of elements essential to Iceland’s character: ice, snow, and flooding waters whirling dark and mysterious. The same elements that inspire this rich, intense, bold and swirlingly varied Icelandic stout. Garún is a dark aura of intense richness and haunting aroma with notes of chocolate, licorice and coffee. Skál!"

Sampled from a bottle. Dark brown colour with a tan head. The head is persistent and firm. Roasted aromas. Great flavours and a rich, almost oily texture. Complex taste of coffee, vanilla, dark chocolate, and cigar ash. Notes of dried fruits and tobacco. Rich bitterness. A superb Imperial Stout. Highly drinkable.

2017-11-23. Black body witha nice tan head that fades. 3++ Aroma is big and boozy, light roast and a bit of a salty iodine scotch like character. Flavour is similar, moderate bitterness throughout, and a good amount of roast malt. Similar iodine scotch accents as in the aroma, sweetish dark malt middle. Average plus bodied palate, soft to low carbonation. Not entirely to my own taste but interesting. 7/3/7/3/15 2016 Vintage bottle from MLCC, Winnipeg.

UPDATED: NOV 24, 2017 Bottle. Opaque black pour with thin persistent brown foam. Aroma is a perfect balance of wood, smoke, licorice and chocolate. Taste is lightly ashy, roasty, burnt malt notes, licorice, and dark chocolate. Palate is full-med bodied with med carbonation, just creamy enough and just boozy enough. Delicious

Pours with a thin coffee colored head that diminishes quickly. Color is coffee-like almost pitch black. Surprising aroma that initially and strongly reminds me of sushi, nori and wasabi. Some fruity layers (plum, fresh apricot) and floral (orchid) notes in between. "Swirls" or coffee, dark chocolate and licorice. Palate is a bit oily, but remains quite balanced. Taste follows the aroma in the sense that there's still the impression of mainly sushi and nori. Additionally stronger "bottom tastes" of licorice and dark-ish chocolate (but not entirely dark), hot chocolate, a hint of fermented fruit (plum mainly). Burnt mid-/aftertaste with a bit of tobacco smoke. An okay imperial, not the best I've had. Special aroma.
