Very dark, coffee color - full rich body - staying head - effervescent nose - soft velvet feeling in the mouth - luscious. Malt character with a hoppy aftertouch. Monks used to fast on this type of beer for 40 days! No food, only beer.

330ml brown bottle. Red brown colour, head is gerenous, fluffy and off white. Sweet brown sugar aroma. Starts with a slight malt sweetness - notes of light brown sugar and raisins, then gets bit sour tasting, notes of lemon show up near the finish.

Red colur, big head that fades to a thin layer, good lace. Aroma is (strangely) very hoppy at first, then comes the malt, caramel, bread, nuts, dried fruits. Medium body, vreay texture, good carbonation. Taste of hops, too, cinnamon, dried fruits, nuts, lactose, Good, but a bit plain.

Bottle from Lidl. Clear deep amber with creamy head. Aroma is bit yeasty and some alcohol is noticeable but nothing significant. Tastes coffee, roasted malt, yeasty, alcohol a bit, but not as high as with other Belgians. Not bad.

Pours clear copper with a thick and fairly persistent beige head. Aroma presents fruity and toasted malt notes. Flavor kicks these both up a notch and adds caramel and a touch of resiny hops to the mix. Mouthfeel offers good body and fair fizz. Lucky monks, living on this for 40 days!
