Very dark, coffee color - full rich body - staying head - effervescent nose - soft velvet feeling in the mouth - luscious. Malt character with a hoppy aftertouch. Monks used to fast on this type of beer for 40 days! No food, only beer.

33 cl bottle. Pours a dark brown color, kicks up a big tan head in my tulip glass. Smells lightly sweet without the extra sugar smell of some Belgians. Takes me a while to get to the beer through all that foam, but what I get is a slightly fizzy body surrounding a pretty fresh malt taste. This bottle sat in the un-air-conditioned Foremost Liquors for goodness knows how long, but its held up pretty nicely. Definite brown malts at work, with fruitiness and slight tart of apple and vanilla. A bit of stickiness on my lip shows that this is still sweet, but well balanced. Background notes of ginger, lemon and nutmeg, too. A nice, complex brew.

Poured from bottle into glass - pours a medium brown with a slightly tan creamy head. Nice malty, bready notes on nose. Similar on the palate, creamy, and pretty darn nice.

Pours a dark brown with some thick sediment chunks floating around with a very thick off white head. The aroma is brown bread, sugar cane, alcohol, malts, and dark fruits. The flavor is more of the same and I have aged the bottle for 3 years so it may have mellowed the flavor.

Bottle. Dark brown with a medium head. Lovely malty flavour. Nothing too complex just a pleasant reasonably strong beer.

330ml bottle:
Quite a disappointing offering on the whole despite starting quite well thanks to the nice combination of caramel & toffee flavours plus the biscuit malts at the start. The problem with this one was that it seemed to fade far too quickly & come the middle there wasnt really much of anything going on save for some subtle fruits & a hint of sugar. Quite a bland & uninspiring offering that seemed a little plain & definitely wasnt as good as some of the better Belgian dubbels Ive tried in the past; this is probably one to avoid I afraid.

330 ml bottle. Pours a hazy red-brown with a beige head. Mild aroma with some caramel malt and a light fruitiness. Medium to full body with a medium carbonation, a medium sweetness and a very light bitterness in the finish. The taste is malty with caramel, brown sugar and dark fruits. Overall mild and balanced.
