Very thick texture. Aroma is overloaded with vanilla and chocolate. Taste is very sweet, empowered with some vanilla character, not as boozy as I was expected. In overall definitely FO on steroids.

Bottle thanks to Mike. Pours a very dark brown with medium tan head that lasts. The aroma is strong vanilla bean, roasted malt, wood, bourbon. Thick, chewy, roast, intense vanilla, nice sweetness, boozy finish, enjoyed this.

From notes. Enjoyed at a share up at Huffman Lake with some good dudes the weekend of September 30 through October 01. 500 mL bottle enjoyed alongside Observation and Summation. The pour is a nice black color with hardly any head and no lace. What’s left is espresso brown in color. The aroma is fantastic. There is a bourbon that’s big and right in your face. The vanilla slowly builds with a solid oak on the back end. There is a light chocolate that pokes through on the finish, but this is just awesome. The flavor is much of the same. The vanilla is just heavy and in your face. It’s not overly sweet. It’s got the bitterness of a nice vanilla. The bourbon is present throughout and there is a light chocolate oak on the finish. I just love the balance on this. The mouth feel is thick and heavy. It’s heavy bodied with a soft carbonation and a lingering vanilla fudginess that just lingers on with a kiss of bourbon. This is damn good. 8 4 9 5 17

Bottte. Dark brown pour with a kaki head. Sweet caramel and vanilla bouquet. Super boozy and sweet with loads of bourbon, caramels, chocolates, vanilla, and oak. A little thin in the body it with a really good mouthfeel.

500 mL bottle. Black body. Smells of alcohol, vanilla, more alcohol, roasted and nutty malts. Some oak. Tastes of vanilla. Sharp vanilla and fruitiness. Alcohol. Rich chocolate. More alcohol. Heavy and intensely alcoholic. It’s over the top in every way, but it is really well made for what it is.

500 ml bottle to snifter (2017 vintage; shared with the Mrs.). Looks good; an opaque dull black with beige lacing. Smells of dark malt, chocolate, oak, vanilla, and bourbon. Tastes like it smells, but more robust and balanced. Mouthfeel is full-bodied and a bit boozy, but still smooth and mellow for the abv. Legit.

500 ml bottle sent by b3shine out of the kindness of his big heart for my 10,000th rating. Thanks, Beau! Cheers to 10,000 and many more, and glad to have shared a number of those with you. This one pours a deep, nearly opaque brown, not quite black, as it has some cocoa brown and amber around the edges. Small dark tan head that settles into a thin ring. Man, this one is right up my alley. It’s exactly as billed - Fundamental Observation, but "high octane" - which plays out in this instance as more intense barrel character. The vanilla mostly hits on the finish and in the aftertaste, because the initial impression and first 2/3 of each sip are all about the bourbon barrel, with plenty of warmth, charred oak, vanilla, toasted brown sugar, cocoa, fudge, roast, molasses, and marshmallow. Not as sweet as FO and I guess you’d technically call it more balanced, but there’s nothing subtle about this one. Medium-full bodied, with low to modest carbonation and a sweet, warming, coating, rich mouthfeel. Absolutely wonderful stuff. Thanks again for the beer, Beau! Thanks to everyone else for sharing, trading, touring, chatting, hanging out, sharing hotel rooms, hitting festivals, goofing around here on RateBeer in forums and messages, sending packages, giving advice, and all the other crazy things we do in our obsessive pursuit of more great beer. Cheers!

500ml shared bottle. Flat black, no head. Aroma is very boozy, vanilla, whiskey, roast. Taste is a vanilla bomb, warming alcohol, bourbon, chocolate, roast. Lots of sweetness that reminds me a bit of a Bruery stout. Strong vanilla without coming off as artificial. Intense flavors but well blended. Thinking that will be even better as some of the barrel and vanilla fade. Looking forward to revisiting this in a year or so.

22 May 2016, tap at Bottle Logic Fundamental Observation barrel tasting event. Standard FO with 600 lbs of dextrose added to bump the abv before barrel aging and blending. Black. Nose is nail polish, molasses, wood, syrup. Med body and syrupy, mostly flat. Very woody, sweet, tobacco. It isn’t as noticeably woody as the individual FO variants. I’m not sure I like this better than FO but it is great!
