COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Traditional winter seasonals are warm and comforting - not this Penguin. Diving in at around 10 percent alcohol by volume, Killer Penguin uses over twice the malt as other winter beers, and is aged for over 6 months to perfect the condition and flavor of this barleywine style ale. This beer doesn't ferment, it hibernates, and wakes up with an attitude.

Bottled. An amber beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel and fruit. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of both fresh and over ripe fruits. The sweetness makes it a bit cloying. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

Bottled@SBWF2014. Amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma and flavour are both quite sweet plummy and syrupy with some slight sweet alcohol, toffee and caramel to it. Not the most exciting Barley Wine around, but should work well as a dessert beer thanks to its rather big sweetness.

(Bottle 65 cl) Courtesy of markgugs. Clear, amber golden with a dense, shaving foam-style like head. Aroma of overripe fruit and sherry. The body is surprisingly only medium with a little caramel and overripe fruit in there. Discreetly bitter. Fairly average Barley Wine. 191207

Draught at Rose and Raindrop, Portland. Clear nut brown. Grassy lemon juice aroma. Somewhat syrupy and vinous with thick mouthfeel. Creates a sweet/sour sensation that Im not terribly sure I like.

Bright copper colour. Rich nose - caramel, earthy hints and chocolate. Fairly thin, which doesnt allow for a true BW impact. Both malt and hop are really standard for the style - anyone familiar with this style at all will be like "yup, thats a barley wine" and then move on.
