Bottle (22oz) shared with HogTownHarry, tupalev & GregClow -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a very dark ruby-brown, almost black, with an average size light-brown head. Aroma’s dry, nice and roasty along with coffee, some chocolate and oatmeal. Flavour of dark roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and light hops. Decent bitter finish. Medium bodied. This is underrated in my opinion, it’s quite good. talon1117 (1152) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - JAN 6, 2008
UPDATED: JAN 7, 2008 Pours black with minimal clarity and a tan, average, pillowy head which is mostly diminishing leaving minimal but nice lace. Nose is nice and simple but solid; notes of moderately roasted coffee, mocha, dark chocolate, oak hints, and a light presence of oatmeal. Flavor is nice but lacking the sweet complements of most oatmeal stouts; moderately roasted coffee, light expresso notes towards the finish, dark and unsweetened chocolates, and a cedary/oaky wood note throughout. Palate is smooth like an oatmeal stout; creamy, almost silky, medium, and lively, and drying. Finishes dry and woody with coffee bitterness and some unsweetened chocolate. A curious beer as an oatmeal stout, but it is pleasant, which is surprising from this brewery. Almost a hybrid style of a strong oatmeal/dry stout; moderately strong with the smoothness of the oatmeal stouts and the drying notes of a dry stout. Nicely done with a well-hidden ABV. Talllahassee, Fl. - Liquor Loft - 22 oz bottle. Black as tar pour with some purple accents, devoid of light coming through. Sticky, but thin mocha colored head. Aroma of faint coffee, some prunes, pleasant. Full bodied dry stout flavor. Some baker’s unsweetened chocolate, day old black coffee and hints of pipe tobacco - finishes with some fresh topsoil. Thickish creamy mouthfeel. Overall, very decent stout. greenhorn1 (850) - Mission Viejo, California, USA - JAN 4, 2008
22 oz bottle from BottleTrek.com. Pours black with a creamy tan head. Deep roasted flavors with an abundance of espresso in the finish. Some detectable notes of chocolate and oatmeal. There is also a nice hint of sweetness. Mouthfeel was much lighter than I was expecting. In addition, I wish there was a stronger presence of oak, but overall a very easy drinking stout. eboats (1082) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - JAN 4, 2008
Bottled. Poured black with a light brown head. Aroma was a strong roast with light chocolate and coffee notes mixed in. Flavor was almost identical to the aroma. Big roasted flavor with the coffee and chocolate mixed in. Chocolate was the least dominant of all the flavors. Very smooth with a slightly above average body.

From a 22oz. bottle purchased at Johns Marketplace in Portland, OR--Poured a deep dark black body with a big fluffy grey-brown head. Chocolaty aroma iwth big gritty maltiness. Great subtle oak chip flavor with some creamy, milky oat presence in there. Not too bold or thick, but very enjoyable and rich. Beaver (1799) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - JAN 2, 2008
22 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a frothy light brown head that quickly dissipates to a thin film that laces the glass.PhillyBeer2112 (2850) - Oviedo, Florida, USA - JAN 2, 2008
The aroma is chocolate malts, oatmeal, roasted coffee and a touch of wood with some initial vegetal and metallic off notes.
The flavor is sweet lactic chocolate with some acidic roasted malts. It finishes with charred roasted bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly watery.
Overall, a decent stout. Its simplicity and some off notes prevent it from being better.
A pretty nice stout, I think fair to call it a dry stout on the strongish side. Characterized by strongly roasted malt aromas and flavors, with a background of coffee and bitter chocolate. Medium-full mouthfeel, easy dry finish. Good partner to grilled shrimp as it turned out. RSRIZZO (1986) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - JAN 1, 2008
Aroma is a deep rich sweet roasted scent. Color is black with good carbonation and a thick tight tan head. Taste is sweet and roasted. Starting with a full body that goes down sweet with a slight crisp feel then a bold roasted flavor and faint bitterness. After taste has a very faint oak taste that fades into mild bitterness and very light alcohol like feel. Its a nice Oatmeal Stout but not a stand out like the other brews in the Looking Glass series.
