Black with a lasting tan head. Aroma of licorice, roasted malt and charcoal with a touch of dried fruits. Dry and roasted flavour with ink and licorice and weaker fruit and biscuit notes. Very weak oak notes with a burned finish. BeerandBlues2 (13196) - Escondido, California, USA - JAN 31, 2008
22-oz bottle. Pours black with an average, dark brown head, somewhat diminishing with good lacing. Aroma is average malt (chocolate, toast), light hops (grass), average yeast (leather) with notes of smoke and wood. Medium bodied, sticky texture, borders on creamy finish, lively carbonation, and a bitter and chalky finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness, light acidity and bitterness. A very easy beer to drink although I expected a little more dark malt aroma out of this one. Still needs some work. bu11zeye (13029) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - MAR 15, 2008

clear dark brown, small white head.
nice strong roasted, licorice, wood, faint flowery hoppy aroma.
flavor is hard roasted grains, licorice, hops, chocolate, dry. very roasted flavor dominates. slowrunner77 (11911) - Reno, Nevada, USA - OCT 6, 2014
pours near black with brown around the edges. nice chocolate, roasted grain, and coffee aroma. evident, but not overdone. palate is smooth, dry, medium bodied...somewhere between a traditional oatmeal & imperial stout. heavy roasted flavors, rasisins, milk chocolate/cocoa, coffee, and some wood, before a bittersweet hoppy chocolate finish. good stuff." madsberg (11762) - Søborg, DENMARK - SEP 13, 2009
Bottled. Reddish brown colorued. LIght brown head. Roast, light chocolate, light liqourice and fruits. Flavour of cocoa, light chocolate, roast, fruits and light coffee. Medium bodied. End on a roasty bitter chocolate note. daknole (11044) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - SEP 5, 2008
Bottle from Crown Liquors. Almost a black pour with a small brown head. Aroma is nice enough. Roasted malts, chocolate, espresso, etc. Flavor is hoppier and toastier than I prefer my stouts. dont get me wrong, it is a pretty well done beer...just not my favorite type of stout. Finish is dry and a tad bitter. hopscotch (11043) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JAN 7, 2008
Bottle… Pitch black with a mid-sized, creamy, khaki head. The nose is of milk chocolate with hints of cola and vanilla. Full-bodied and creamy with restrained carbonation. Medium sweet, moderately burnt and bitter; the flavor offers up chocolate and charcoal with a whisper of vanilla. Chocolaty, bittersweet finish. This beer surprised me by not falling flat on its face while following up bottles of Southern Tier Imperial Choklat and Bells Bourbon Barrel Double Cream/Expedition Stout. Underrated, I think. Bottle courtesy of mgumby10. Thanks Mike!
