Draft at the brewpub. A pitch black beer with a thin borwn head. The aroma is sweet with notes of roasted malt and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt as well as strong notes of chocolate and light notes of alcohol that burns slightly in the throat, which surprises me at 5.5% ABV. joergen (29231) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - JUL 7, 2006

GBBF. Cask. Cloudy dark brown beer, residual tan head. Light dry palate with a mildly sour nose. Ok brown malts with a trace of fruit. A little sour. Ok.
(Bottle 35,5 cl) Pours a very dark brown - close to black - with a reddish hue and a small, beige head. Sweetish, roasted malt aroma. Medium body with lots of sweet, roasted malty flavours and loads of chocolate accents. Slightly burned finish with touches of aroma hops. A very pleasant brew. 060706 Leighton (22327) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 20, 2011

Cask (gravity dispense) at Great British Beer Festival, day 3, on 4 August 2011. Very dark brown colour. Loose, slightly frothy, but soon diminished head. Fairly dry and quite roasty. Hints of chocolate and a dab of licorice. Light, mellow mouthfeel. Solid and pleasantly drinkable, if nothing especially spectacular.
