God beer, but not great - therefore not worth the $20something price tag. Notes of vanilla, wood and booze with a simple underlying maltiness. Smooth medium body. Finishes warm.

Bottle, shared at Faysal’s surprise birthday party. Tawny amber with a creamy golden head. Nice chewy toffee malts with balanced sweet bourbon and vanilla oak. Very full bodied, but balanced. Excellent.

Share at Gaucho. Pours a clearish copper color. Vanilla oak dark fruit boozy aroma. Taste is mostly boozy bourbon with a sweet maltiness in the background.

Poured a tawny color with a white head. Aroma was oak barrel, vanilla and booze. Flavor similar, mainly oaky barrel and alcohol, not much base beer here.

chinchill (5344) - South Carolina, USA - SEP 8, 2015
Large shared bottle in Atlanta.
The body is very clear, deep orange amber with a decent head.
Appealing and complex flavor, albeit rather boozy.
The flavor is not quite as good, in part due to the overly obvious alcohol.
Although this is sweet up front, overall it is bitter for a barleywine.

22oz green waxed bomber pours with a clear copper to amber body that supports a weak tan head. The aroma offers up brown sugar, plums, raisins, a bit of molasses and then some vanilla sweetened soft oaky bourbon. Nice. The taste is similar with a good early dose of sweet molasses and then picking up raisins and prunes and figs. Toward midway the bourbon bubbles to the surface with a boozy rough edge and a softer vanilla sweetened edge. There is a pleasing beer to barrel treatment balance but it is still kind of rough around the edges. Maybe some cellar time will pull this together.

turbidwater (6) - - FEB 8, 2015 does not count
This has all the pleasant aspects of bourbon (flavor, color, alcohol content) but not the nasty burn. It’s nice and creamy, very flavorful (toffee, bourbon) and smooth, pours beautifully, and makes you warm and toasty quick.

Green wax 22 oz. bottle. Pours dark Amber with a frothy khaki head that settles to a soapy film. Aroma starts with spiced alcohol rich caramel raisin and nice bourbon with some dmooth sweetness. Taste is sweet spiced bourbon caramel dark fruit tobacco and alcohol. Palate is medium full with a good warming finish. Really nice.

marcus (10757) - Sacramento, California, USA - DEC 30, 2014
Bottle from Capitol Beer & Tap Room. Pours reddish brown with a tiny beige head and a fruit and bourbon aroma. There is a full-bodied caramel malt flavor with some raisin and a lot of bourbon. A nice sipper.
