On tap at Surfrider Cafe in Santa Cruz. Pours basically black with a tan head. Cocoa, ash and coffee aroma. Black malt flavor, lightly roasted with some toasted bread and caramel as well. A decent dry stout. HughConway (831) - Washington, USA - JAN 5, 2013
Tap at the brewery. Pours black, tan head. Aroma of coffee and roast malt. Taste of roasted malt. Pleasing porter. brokensail (16633) - Dublin, California, USA - DEC 27, 2012
Black in color with a tan head. Roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and charcoal notes on the nose. Slight earthiness and a strange amount of caramel and sugar sweetness for a dry stout. Tastes mostly of roast, charcoal, and coffee. Some dark chocolate and earthy hops add a fairly pronounced bitterness. There’s still a pretty heavy sweetness of licorice and sugar. fidel (1302) - Livermore, California, USA - OCT 25, 2009
Poured very black, sweet, creamy, roasted malts, coffee, little dark chocolate, little hops, slight licorice. SamGamgee (2452) - down the whirlpool, California, USA - OCT 4, 2009
Draught at the Surfrider Cafe. Super dark brown (nearly black) color with a tan head. Dark bread crust, caramel, and roasted malt aroma. Coffee-like roasted barley flavor with a nice caramel sweetness for balance and lighter hops. The roasty dryness balances the sweeter malt flavors well. Best beer from my first Boulder Creek experience, and a little more robust and sweet than most dry stouts.

The best beer they had at the time(which isn’t saying much). Pours black with tan head. Aromas of roasted malt. Flavor has a bit of dark chocolate. Mouthfeel is smooth and rich. Nice coffee finish.
