This rich, dark beer is made with four varieties of malt - 2-row brewers, Munich, caramel and black malt. This ruby-black brew is perfectly balanced with English East Kent Goldings and German Target hops. The pleasant coffee-like character comes from the variety of roasted malts and the distinct chocolate flavor from 100% real cocoa.

Sampler at the brewpub. A darkest red and clear in the glass. Small light beige head. Toasted malt and low coffee on the nose, hints of allmonds. Taste is more malty, low toasted, more fruity. A light one of its kind.

again 5th percentile seems a tad harsh, but it’s brown - not a good color for a stout. the chocolate is there, but on the weak side. overall, an ok light porter, but a poor stout.

Where and how: at brewery (sampler)
Aroma milder nose, notes of chocolate with hints of black forest cake.
Appearance :
Top: medium off-white with lace on glass.
Base: garnet, hazy.
Palate : medium thinner body. Felt too soft , lacking bit of edge.
Taste: up front – chocolate. Feel of sweet stout. Chocolate flavor was good. Hops were hidden under.
other notes I found to be too sweet.

Draft at the source 12/19/13. Hazy dark brown color, tan head, solid lacing. Aroma of light coffee. Taste is coffee and cocoa.

On tap at the Brew Pub at Boulder. Nice dark cloudy pour. Nice roasted malt and chocolate flavor. Thin on the body and flavors. I did get the free beer with the T-shirt I bought though.

Decent but unusual. Had at the brewpub. Reddish. Standard nose but light. Palate is lacking a bit of malt but is decent. Just not greater.

Very disappointed by my favorite style beer. Pours a deep red with a tan top. Does not have the malt character normally associated with a stout. Lots of caramel rather than roasted. Good body but bitter finish from high hop content.

UPDATED: DEC 22, 2012 Looks a little pale watery. Smells fine. Flavor has quite a bit of hops up front. Not very heavy. Good but doesn’t seem real stouty. G Had again and it was a bit soured

Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Smells earthy. Tastes of roasted malt and earthy with a light mouthfeel. Tastes more like a brown ale.
