With roots in two of today’s most popular brewing styles, 80-Acre Hoppy Wheat Beer is the result of careful cultivation by our brewers and cellarmen. Their efforts to craft a hybrid yielded a bumper crop of flavor; a delightfully distinctive ale with the aroma of an IPA and the refreshing taste of a wheat beer.

Tasted at the Boulevard Tasting Room after a tour on December 17. I’m not a huge fan of the Boulevard Wheat, but this is a brew I can get behind. The extra hoppiness in this gives it a bigger flavor, while not going overboard on the bitterness. I can’t wait until Boulevard actually releases this beer.

bottled, almost clear icy yellow pour with thin foam ring, clean fruity wheat aroma, great melon, wheat and hard cheese flavors, nice finish

Nice looking wheat beer. The head was two fingers and lasted forever, leaving sticky lace. The beer is pretty much like their regular wheat beer in color and clarity, tan and fairly cloudy. I suspect there’s overlap in the recipes, but not just from the appearance. The aroma is quite hoppy, also bready, with a little fruit and wheat too. Taste is a bit odd, but delicious. It really tastes like boulevard wheat with a bunch of hops in it. It’s got yeasty notes, wheat, citrus, grassy hops, malt, lots of good stuff in there. Body is typically wheat beer, light and easy to drink, but almost chewy with body. A lightly sweet, hoppy aftertaste denotes the finish. It’s definitely a very different beer, and I like it. Wonderful for summer laziness. I’ll definitely be drinking this one again. Great value too.

Light head, some yellow in the lacing. Hoppy smell with citrus, and a little tropical fruit. Hop character in the taste but a mouthful of breadiness, slight tartness. Finishes with a nice slight bitterness. Would drink again.

Bottle. Pours a glowing yellow green color with a large foamy head. Notes of lemon bars, fresh cut grass, green and floral hops, and citrus. Great balance and mouthfeel. I like it.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy yellow with a dissipating white head; leaves a skiff of foam and a little lace. Aroma consists of citrus powder drink, cooked vegetables (chilies?), catbox. Taste is a weird mixture of Bavarian Hefeweizen (clove) and IPA (citrusy hops). Weird isn’t a bad thing in this case. Crisp and thirst-quenching. Highly carbonated and a bit foamy in the mouth. Very interesting and tasty.

Unfiltered straw color pour with medium to light white head and no lacing. West coast hop aroma. Lots of citrus and some pine. I pick up some traditional wheat aromas as well. Some grassiness and some yeast esters. Highly carbonated. Pretty good balance between both styles. Most wheat IPA's are either too much wheat or too much ipa. This is a good mix. Estery, sweet, grassy malt character with citrusy and caramel pale ale character. Good refreshing beer. ---Rated via iPhone

The aroma reminds you of citrus hops and sweet bread yeast, and the appearance fuses a hazy golden color with a large white and frothy head. The taste is mildly bitter, slightly sweet, and a touch sour, and the palate combines a medium body, slick texture, an abrupt finish, and a soft carbonation.
